HP ScanJet G3110 Photo Scanner

I previously had the same model for several years and it was a workhorse. It is easy to use. The scanning area is a little larger than most and the resolution is higher than most other scanners. I was so happy to find this model again. It is being used in a local historical museum and it is doing a great job!

First of all, it came without the software. I have to ask for it and it came a few weeks later. When I could install it, I noticed this scanner is Extremely slow. The only thing I like is that I can scan slides, photo negatives and specially dental x rays which is what I wanted it for. Though at a very slow speed.

I used one of these at work and had no trouble with it. Bought one for home and am having trouble using it with Vista and windows 8. It would only load on our windows7 and that is not what we wanted. I may send it back.

What a cool tool for such a low price.

First the good news: The device does a good job of scanning, considering its price, and it scans negatives. Unlike most other scanners (which use LCDs) it has reasonable depth of field. That was enough for 3 stars.Now the problems:1. When I tried to install the software from the CD onto my Mac, it failed due to a cancelled certificate. I was able to download the software from the web site, and it works reasonably well.2. Integration with Apple's "Image Capture" software is incomplete. In particular, when I attempted to scan a negative it gave a non-specific error message. There was no help in the support section on the web. I worked around that by using VueScan, which works very well and is generally my preferred scanning software anyway. I was able to scan some old color negatives and make prints that are better quality than the original prints made from the same negatives. Good enough for me.3. This scanner has a noticeably larger footprint than the old one it replaced. I had a bit of trouble making room for it on my desk. I finally wound up with it extending a few inches off the end of my desk. Not ideal, but it works.SUMMARY: This product could have (should have!) been a lot better and easier to use. But since I was able to work around the problems, and since it produces good scans and has some features not readily available in other scanners, I am keeping it and expect to get good use from it.

This product arrived in very good condition, almost as new. The only issue i found is when scanning 35mm slides it lasts more time than i expected. I also have the anohter hp scanner wich has a 2 slides bed (this one, g3110, has room for 4 slides) and i scan in parallel, and the other has a better performance scanning 2 slides than the g3110. Comparing processing time, while G3110 scans 4 slides in a session, the other (in steps of 2 slides) let me process 6 slides. But, beside that, i am satisfied with the hardware well condition and the seller.

The company made sure I was able to download the software prior to sending the scanner so I would not be disappointed. I thought that was extra special of them! I was able to download and as soon as I received the scanner, plugged everything in and away it went -- WORKS great! Thank You janson118 - Amazon Marketplace <[email protected]>

Unable to install software onto my Windows Vista computer even though the thing is suppose to operate on nearly any Windows platform since XP. Installation CD did not Autorun. Installation error message whether using CD software or downloading software from HP website. Website useless - no live support. Forums did not answer question of installation. Instructions lacked explanations of anything, particularly installation. HP has gone severely downhill over the years. I will never buy an HP product again. Would give a ZERO STARS if possible.
