Schumacher SC1303 6/12V Fully Automatic Battery Charger and 10A Maintainer

UPDATE: February 27, 2015 Purchased this over a year ago using it as described below and it has consistently performed as well as the first day I got it. It has been running 24 hours a day and I have not had the slightest problem. ________________________________________________________________________________________________ I bought this because of having a need to temporarily use my Igloo 40 quart cooler as a refrigerator, meaning that it had to be able to run 24-7. This is not typical because most people only use coolers temporarily to keep things cold in a motel room while traveling or for short term reasons. However mine had to function as a standard refrigerator. My cooler is also not small. It has a pretty large capacity. It's pictured here ......... Igloo Thermoelectric Cooler Mercury 40 Quart From the moment I plugged the Schumacher converter in (which has now been two months already) it is working flawlessly and keeping the temperature as cold in my Igloo as a conventional refrigerator. It does not get overly hot at all either even though it's working continuously. As a safety feature, Schumacher incorporates a built-in automatic shutdown switch if the unit ever does overheat. Although this is not stated in the description, I called and it was confirmed that the units they make have this safety feature should it sense a circuit overload. I selected the Schumacher brand because it is a quality company based in Mt Prospect, Illinois. I had their Mighty-Mite battery charger which developed a defect after nearly a year and would not hold a charge. Immediately upon notifying Shumacher, they rushed another one to me at no charge and even paid the shipping. I can highly recommend this company and this converter with no hesitation. And with just common sense of placing it upright on its feet and allowing for proper air circulation around it, you will find this is probably the best and the highest amp rating output performer of any in its class.

I'm using this power supply to run a 12 volt telescope mount. My tester shows this unit converts 120 volts AC to 12.75 volts DC. The power requirements of my mount are 11-16 VDC and 4 amps. It runs my mount with no problems, but I know from experience that I need at least the output this unit supplies for the weight of my telescope and accessories. This unit is rated at 70 watts continuous power up to 6 amps. You will need to be careful on what type of device you are powering. If I were run more 12 volt accessories with my telescope, I would need a power supply rated for more amps. Check the amps that your 12 volt device pulls. The DC end of the unit is a single cigarette lighter receptacle. My five star rating is based on using the PS within its stated limits. It has a reputation for reliability. I have the Schumacher brand of of other electronic equipment and have always been satisfied.

I bought this power supply to power a 12 volt automotive heater fan that i am using for combustion air supply on a waste oil burner project. I added a potentiometer to the line to the fan for speed control and it has been working flawlessly for weeks now. Does not get hot and has no problems running the fan whether i have it powered way down for a small burn or cranked up for maximum heat. I would recommend this for anyone looking to power a fan or any 12 volt motor as long as you know your specs of the motor. Very happy with the quality and great price.

Works great for the most part, but at least in my particular application, you have to keep an eye on it. I have yet to try other devices in it, but it was bought mainly to allow for the use of a Traxxas battery charger to be used off of wall current. ( It seems that the pennypinchers at Traxxas feel it's "the best solution" to give you a charger that only works off of a DC lighter socket. Since it's not like you would ever spend most of our time charging your RC batteries at home, right? No, your 12 year old prefers to drive his car to the local field and spend an hour or so charging his batteries there...) Anyway, the particular charger that I have seems to push itself out of the charger socket and break connection. If I find that it's the plug and not the socket, I will update the review to 5 stars. The electronics of the converter are fantastic so far, and I have no complaints on that side.

I use this on an Indel B TB18 vehicle refrigerator, pretty much dedicated to that task. I run my fridge a day or two before I leave to allow it to fully cool down, and I start loading it ahead of time, saves a lot of hassle just to plug it up in the kitchen with this and then move it to the truck before I leave. It's pretty compact which is nice since it's not a commonly used item when I travel, but I go ahead and bring it along in case I do happen across handy utility AC at a campsite or hotel. So far this item has done well, just plug my fridge in and forget it. Have not noticed any heat issues or trouble with it supplying the fridge, granted the fridge does not pull near the upper end of this units rating. I do always make sure to position it with plenty of room around it for air circulation.

body is plastic, as some have mentioned (and the 2 halves don't really line up properly, factory dies must not be the greatest, no big deal) - but I can see metal heat sinks inside, through the front vent holes. no fan, which is one less thing to break down, but it does get more than a little warm with only a 48W load. actually even with zero load is still a bit warm. no fuse on the 12v socket. but - most things you'd plug into this product, come with built in fuse anyway. but still for safety it would be nice if this product also had its own fuse. but given the very inexpensive price, yeah ok understandable.

Tenia mis dudas al comprarlo y que varias personas decían que no era para una nevera. Lo compré y lo uso cada fin de semana o 15 días que salgo de la ciudad, o en casa cuando no caben cosas en mi refrigerador, conecto mi nevera con este artículo y después de 6 meses de uso, continúa funcionando de maravilla. Ojo, mi nevera portatil usa 68W, por lo que lo uso casi al 100% que es el límite, no es recomendable hacer esto por largos periodos de tiempo. Estoy muy satisfecho con esta compra, recomendable. Consejo: revise el consumo y alimentación que necesita su nevera o lo que vaya conectar antes de comprarlo, muchas personas lo compran sin fijarse y luego se quejan que no les sirvió.

What a pleasant surprise, a power converter that works! I say this because I'd previously purchased one for about $10CAD that definitely didn't work and Amazon.ca issued a refund but I still needed a converter. This one is 3-1/2 times more expensive, but it does what it's supposed to do, provide clean 12V-6A power to a security camera. Because this has an auto-cig lighter 12V connection, I had to buy an adapter to get two bare wires which I could insert into my Jacky male plug (ASIN: B00JNLIYS2) which inserts into the camera female connection. After assembling everything, plugging the Schumaker into 120V AC and then connecting the 12V, the camera booted up immediately. What a relief. The lesson learned is that the $10 or less 12V adapters can't compete, if you need a reliable power source, buy this one (There's also a 15A). The site said Made in the U.S.A, the product says Made in China, but when sold by Schumacher, I guess they made sure the quality was there, even if they had to charge more. (Well returns of non-functioning stuff has to be expensive and I'm sure they want a profit = good for us!) Mine does NOT get hot, it's barely warm after powering the camera for about 12 hours, possibly because the camera doesn't draw the full 6A. I have set it on top of a metal strap to make sure there's good air flow all around it.

I needed a 6a 12v power supply for a telescope mount and this one (so far) is very good. I tried an off brand one that initially appeared to be well constructed, but the power connection would cut on and off... something that makes it useless for my application. The Schumacher has been far better.
