The BEST "best-of" Summary of Lewis' Letters
While I own the three-volume set of letters that were published before this book (Yours, Jack), I had only read a few letters here and there; but this selection edited by Lewis scholar, Paul Ford is more enjoyable than I had realized. This is especially true because of developing a working knowledge of Lewis' life from my own research. That said, I am now thinking that this book could easily be recommended to those new to Lewis, as it presents a variety of advice he gave to others that can frequently be applied in some way to one's own life.

The Letters of Lewis provide intimate insight into the Life of C. S. Lewis
Do you like C. S. Lewis?Do you like reading other people's mail? Then you will LOVE this book.It contains some of the letters that C. S. Lewis wrote during his life. C. S. Lewis spent a couple hours each and every day for most of his adult writing career responding to the letters that people wrote to him. I think I read somewhere that he personally responded to EVERY person who wrote to him.Can you imagine? I cannot even do that with email...This book does not contain every letter C. S. Lewis wrote, but several hundred of them. They show some of the struggles he faced, the questions he sought answers for, and the ups and downs of his professional and personal relationships. And, as with absolutely everything C. S. Lewis writes, the letters of C. S. Lewis are full of theological insights and poignant observations about life, church, writing, theology, relationships, and a whole variety of other topics. He even writes several letters about *gasp* masturbation...I highly recommend this book.

What an amazing fellow, that Mr. Lewis!
Absolutely fantastic book of letters Lewis shared with friends and people writing to search for answers to life conundrums. So insightful and very “Lewis.” His heart and clarity of thought astound me with nearly every letter; I sometimes forget he isn’t addressing them to me. Lewis is a genuine philosopher and theologian. As he grew in his relationship with God, he shared his failures and curiosities and wisdom along the way. Will definitely be reading this over and over.

Seeing The Heart
Reading the letters written by C.S.Lewis has given me a glimpse of the heart of the man.Like sitting down at a table and having a conversation with him. The Bible says "Out of the heart the mouth speaks."

Insight into the Man
This book doesn't have to be read quickly. It can be read a few letters at a time. One gets a view of who Lewis really was & how he viewed the practical things of life as well as theology.

A Good Distillation
I recently plowed through Volume Two of C.S. Lewis's collected letters (1931-49). Given that the book is about 1000 pages long the task daunted me at the beginning. But after a certain point, I didn't want it to end and look forward eagerly to Vol. Three. For the more easily sated, however, this culling of the spiritual advice found in CSL's letters should hit the spot. The only ordering is chronological, so you can dip in anywhere at all, or consult the index for guidance. This struck me as very worthwhile work, undertaken by an editor of such modesty that there is no author bio (that I could find, anyway) anywhere in the book or on the dust jacket....
