Shelter Dogs: Amazing Stories of Adopted Strays

Easy and emotional read - please adopt yourselves!
Lovely read! I hope that it encourages people to adopt a shelter dog. I had one myself and it has been the best decision in my life so far. He's been very sick and about to be euthanized on a Thursday. I came to the shelter Wednesday before and saw him cowered in a corner and trembling. A little bundle of dirty fluff that stank incredibly. I picked him up and noticed a blueish eye and thought he was blind. He put his head on my arm and gently licked my hand. - I never let go of him. They said I couldn't have him, he'd be too sick. - I gave them $200 cash and asked for his passport. Half an hour later, I walked out of the shelter with the dog. He had distemper. He was only 6 months old. I took him to the animal hospital who kept him for 2 weeks on a dripping feed. I stayed by his side every day, holding him and sometimes reading a book and just be with him. I loved him to bits until the day he died - 11 years later. We had a terrific time together and he fully recovered from distemper. And he wasn't blind - he just had blue eyes. - I told this because - together with this book - I hope that someone takes a dog from a shelter. They're incredible creatures! Friends for life!

Being left, or hurt, shelter dogs are still great for friendship and love if one is willing to train them
Amazing how people with a love for dogs can teach them to obey and become great helpers....especially one lady with multiple sclerosis....because she was determined and had the desire, even without lots of training made a wonderful guide dog out of a shelter dog and really made him famous along with herself....flying to and making speeches in other countries to help others know what even a shelter dog can do.

THROW AWAY PET MIRACLES
This book encapsulates the truth that shelter animals REMEMBER what you rescued them from and give back more than you ever gave in re-homing them. Such a book will encourage readers to seek out shelters for their next pet. It reminds people in real-life scenarios that there are very special animals that have their own story to tell, if given the chance. It makes my heart sad that millions of homeless animals are put to sleep yearly that were never given the chance to be all they were supposed to be...this book will change the mind of many future owners and save the lives of many who just need to come home...this book is a fast read, a well written true story of the lives of animals that almost did not get the chance to sing their heart-song to the world...I'm the family member of some who have & I'm so glad they did...Cheryl-Tacoma,Wa

Absolutely a warm view into senior pooches
Wow! If you needed to know more about rescuing senior dogs, this is the book that will give you wonderful insight. Just because of this book I am now open to looking at senior rescue dogs even though we already have two dogs! Really gives you understanding as to what heart is still in older dogs.

Fantastic
I remember reading this book at my local library when I was really young and I’m so happy I found it again. The stories are still touching and inspire so much hope for shelter dogs. A book for kids and adults alike.

GREAT BOOK~
I had to read this book for my Accelerated English class at school. I have to say, I really like this book and I thought it was very interesting. This book is very well written and has a "hook" that grabs the reader's attention. I am thinking about reading more of Peg Kehret's books. To sum up, I absolutely love this book! 5 stars.

Don't Give Up
If only I had a zillion dollars, I'd adopt every animal in a shelter. These animals definitely received a second chance and they proved they were totally worth it. This was a cheering book, even though one knows there are many more animals waiting to be given that second chance. Read the book and be amazed.

All saved dogs
Great sampling of what happens in a shelter. Precious lives are united with humans who care enough to give of themselves and are highly rewarded by the love and loyalty they receive in return. Yes,I am a shelter volunteer and have adopted 5 older cats in the last 20 years. Happy years with each one of them during their remaining years.

An excellent read
Well written with interesting and useful information at end of each chapter. It was inspiring to how each of these dogs started out in a hopeless place then become loved, sometimes even life saving family members. The only suggestion I'd have for improving it would be to have full colour pictures and more of them. We live in a highly visually oriented world.
