Sylvania SDVD9805 9-Inch Twin Dual Screen DVD Player

I recommend buying a protection plan (such as squaretrade) with this product. The picture is wonderful, but one stopped working within 60 days and the other just went out after 6 months. I am rebuying though with the insurance money because it is the cheapest option and literally... all portable dvd player reviews say this happens. They stop playing, start skipping, etc etc.. I figure it's just what happens when you get this kind of product. I think it's lead competitor in the same price range is the philips 9 inch that also plays different movies and they have the same ratings all around, but more complaints on the mounting. I have done hours of research and come to the conclusion that I might as well stick with what I had because while they were working, I did like them a lot. There were some volume issues at times, but fixed with a set of headphones. Buy the protection plan and you won't have wasted your money. At least then if it breaks, you can replace it for free (minus the cost of the protection plan itself- mine was $12 no deductible and all shipping charges covered).

We bought these for a 5 hour driving vacation (which turned into 9 hours) to entertain our daughter and they worked like a charm! Great picture quality. And we've used them multiple times since on shorter drives and they still work great. She is 8 and is able to operate them herself. The way they are constructed allows for easy in and out of discs which we like. The sound is a little quiet with car background noise in a driving car, but she wears ear phones and that seems to work for her. They have an internal battery and so will play for a short time on battery power. If you turn them off however, they will lose the place of the movie and you will have to start over from the beginning. But overall, we are happy with them and our daughter loves using them in the car.

First off, let me say I read some of the negative reviews but decided to take a chance on these. I was completely open-minded and was hoping for a good product.When the product arrived, I completely charged both units and proceeded to test them. First thing I noticed, they were slow to load a movie. For instance, you put in a movie and sometimes have to wait 5 seconds before the movie menu will come up. I know that does not seem like a long time, but when your 2 year old is having a melt down, speed is nice. Also sometimes after inserting a movie and waiting for about 20 seconds, it would not load and I had to repower the unit. Both units were doing this so I just assumed it was poor quality electronics, but would suit our needs. Also the sound quality on these are horrible compared to an iPad.So we used these for about 40 days and they worked okay. Well then we noticed one unit would not charge in the vehicle. I thought no big deal, we will just use the other unit. Well the other unit would not play a movie. So I tried to return them to Amazon but they have a 30 day return policy. So I contacted the parent company, and they told me the same thing, no return after 30 days. So the story is here, if you can create an electronic product that will only last 30 days, you are in the clear. I am completely out of luck and just threw the units in the trash, sick that I wasted my money.Finally I did what I had originally wanted to do. I bought a used iPad for $150 and loaded 20 movies on it and bought a head rest case for it. Guess what? The iPad works great, sounds great and never has any problems!!!!!This unit is complete garbage, and it will eventually break and then you will be in the same situation I am in. Out $120 and no one, not even the parent company, willing to help you out.

First of all, one of the biggest issues with this product is the fact that the reviews for it are inaccurate. I believe this is the fault of Sylvania/Amazon- the product has been revised to solve most of the negative reviews, yet the product number has remained the same, and so many of the reviews pointing out flaws that come with this device are no longer flaws at all.Anyway, my purchase: my wife and I bought this prior to taking a 22 hour (each way) trip from Cleveland to Houston. They were a life saver, and worked very well almost the whole time.The good: excellent product for the price. The features offered (dual players, internal battery, etc) combined with the price were un-matched in my research. My kids did great each being able to watch their own thing, and so I never had them connected together although I did test that feature. I found the cords to be fine, and I used Gaffer's tape to tape the wires to the ceiling and seat to get them out of the way. It almost looked as good as a factory install, but was removable when we got home so we don't have to fight about dvds on daily trips like to the grocery store.The not as good: The straps that hold the devices to the seats are only ok. You need to make sure to wrap them just right to stay put. Also, the thin plastic that holds the strap to the device failed when my 3 year old was pulling on the player. I was able to fix this with super glue purchased at a truck stop in Mississippi- I feel like this was a combination of poor design and an overly excited toddler.Overall: I'm very happy with these. Despite having to glue the one bracket, I'm not even bothering to return them (it held 10 more car hours after the fix). They're not the quietest or have the brightest screens, but they did everything we asked them to and our kids loved them. If your'e worried about the mounting straps, which in my opinion are the biggest flaw, go ahead and buy the upgraded mount straps amazon suggests.One suggestion: We got our kids "road trip gifts" of headphones to go with them that we gave them at the start of the trip. It was a big hit, and made it so we didn't having dualing audio the whole way. The speakers on this unit worked well when needed though.

I bought these for my almost 4 year old for long drives and I am very pleased with the quality and the ease of use. We have used for a few long trips and it helps keep her entertained so I can focus on driving without distractions. Even though it is strapped to my headrest I can still listen to music in the front with no issues or complaints. Thank you for saving my sanity on long trips! Would purchase again!

I would not recommend these DVD players.Sound quality is terrible.Not a very clear picture.After a couple weeks they both aren't working properly. The open/close button stopped working, will not latch, basically rendering the unit useless unless you want to hold it shut while watching!When trying to select a certain chapter, it will often go right to the beginning again.If using the fast forward or rewind, the end of the scene/chapter will be cut off.They will randomly freeze, even on a pristine new DVD.The headrest straps for a vehicle don't work well, poor quality.The USB feature will not work to connect to my cell phone.Save your money and get something worthwhile, this is not it!!

For the price, these DVD players work really well. I do wish they came with 2 wall chargers, however the car charger is split and quite long, so we were able to just keep them plugged in for the duration of our drive across canada. My 6 and 8 year olds were able to change the discs on their own, and the one remote works well at controlling each individual unit.If you wish, they can be used as standalone players outside the car, as they have small kickstands on the back. The mounting straps provided were not great, and required some fancy fiddling to tighten them in our dodge grand caravan.If there was a 2nd wall charger and an easier way to tighten the mounts, this review would be 5 stars.

It works great and isn't a bad price the only issue I had was that my kids broke the slave screen in less then 24 hours of having it and you can't just buy the slave screen

The picture shown is the model SDVD9805 which I thought I was receiving. After a 2-week delay, I received a completely looking device. The model number is SDVD9805C. The unit looks dated compare to the sleek design shown in the picture. I was misled by the picture. (To be fair, the description does indicate in "fine print" that it is either the SDVD9505/SDVD9805C but the picture shown is only for SDVD9805). I don't know if there is any functionality differences between the two models.The product dimension in the description is also incorrect. It indicates:Product Dimensions: 31 x 13.5 x 28.4 cmI measured my device, the width is only 10 inches (25.4 cm) x length of 7.5 inches (19 cm). Perhaps the "product dimensions" is referring to the box. I was trying to the "product dimensions" to buy a corresponding case for it. So, those numbers were useless.I have only tried one of the device. As others indicated, the straps that came with the DVD players are very flimsy. So, I bought the TFY 2X headrest mount holder. Much more secure and sturdy.The video quality is basic 480 resolution. The sound is adequate in a quiet environment. The player plays even burned DVDs which is great. And, the player has built-in battery that recharges. But, I am not sure how long the battery lasts on its own.Overall, don't have too high of an expectation. But, these DVD players should keep you or your kids occupied for a little while.
