Far North

We've bought more than a dozen of the books by Will Hobbs for our grandsons. I don't remember how old they were when we started buying them, but old enough to read or be read to.

My 11 year old son and I read every night. This is our second Will Hobbs story and we are completely hooked. I have looked for a long time for an author that appeals to him and Hobbs is certainly it. My son struggles to read. It sure helps to have subject matter that he enjoys. My son is the sporty, hunting & fishing kind of guy. This story is about two teenage boys that wind up stranded in the "Far North" Canadian wilderness with an older man. The things these three do to survive are amazing and realistic. I was explaining this book to a friend who is an Alaskan hunter and he was amazed at the accuracy of the hunting descriptions. We struggle to put this book down when we need to go to sleep. THANK YOU WILL HOBBS!! You are so helping my son to become a better reader. I just ordered a bunch more of Hobbs' books which are currently on 4 for 3 specials here on amazon. Thank you Amazon!

This book is filled with twist and turns that's keep you on your toes. Once you start you will not want to put it down!

This book would have been unbelievable had not the Indian characters been in place to help the story along. It teaches that people can survive even when the odds are against them. I like the story and plot and had to overlook minor flaws in characters and their ability, even when common sense should have warned them of trouble ahead. Sometimes youth wins in spite of stupidity.Good book to read if you like hunting and fishing and survival in the wilderness. Very good price also!

A fantastic read! This is the book which first got me HOOKED on Will Hobbs! He travels to each of his books' adventurous locations! The writing is descriptive, engaging, and full of imagery. The characters are incredibly relatable and easy to identify with. Such a page turner! Don't tell yourself you'll go to bed at the end of the chapter, because he'll hook you so much that you'll have to keep turning pages!

Adventure. Survival in the extreme of Alaskan winter. Perseverance. This is a powerful tale of friendship forming through adversity, young men coming to respect an elder and a fading way of life, and surviving in face of bitter conditions. I appreciate that there is no coarse language, crudity, or sexual content. I will recommend this to my 5th grade son.

I was looking for a book to use with fourth graders with a survival theme and found Far North. The pacing is good and the various problems that are encountered by the characters are varied and interesting. I wish the characters had been developed more, but I found the book engaging and will use it with my students this year.

Will Hobbs has written an excellent story of adventure and survival. The story revolves around an ancient tribal elder and two teenage boys who are stranded in northern Canada. One of the boys is from Texas and one is a native Indian whose village they are trying to reach before they die of starvation, or extreme cold. Hobbs' description of weather conditions in minus 20 Fahrenheit and minus 50 Fahrenheit will make you shiver and reach for a warm blanket.

I'm sure the book will be great - Will Hobbs is a fantastic author. However, my problem with the book is that the font is very small and pale. It is going to be hard to read.

Really loved description of winter, wild and struggle to survive. It takes you to nwt and makes you feel the cold. Suspense and adventure makes you read it until the end.
