Survived Cold Shipping and Is Thriving Indoors!
Ordered as a Christmas gift for someone else. It arrived packaged well. The pot was wrapped so no soil would fall out, and the box was filled with packing peanuts to stabilize the tree.It was cold here, so the tree was refrigerator cold when it arrived. That was NOT the fault of the provider. It was just winter. Some bonsai places will not ship to cold states in winter, and that is understandable. This Golden Gate Ficus rebounded after losing probably more than 50 percent of its leaves within days. New growth was already starting when it arrived. Within three weeks its growth really took off. It was only days until Christmas when it arrived, and I was not sure it would survive. So, I did not give it as a gift as originally planned. The tree is exposed to a full-spectrum plant light about 12 hours or more per day and a small fluorescent light 24 hours per day. I bought an LED grow lamp to give with it as a gift. The tree is watered every two days or when the top of the soil begins to look a bit dry. It is almost ready for some plant fertilizer now too.I already started wiring some branches into the shape I want. Though it was supposed to be a gift for someone else, I'm keeping it for me! The price was a great deal on an easy to grow bonsai tree. With a grow light and a Golden Gate Ficus, you can have an indoor bonsai tree in cold climates. Don't keep it near a cold window at night. These trees do better where it is at least room temperature. The pot it came in is nice too, and the tree was wired properly into the pot. I am going to add a humidity tray with stones as the indoor humidity here in winter is only about 26%. Oh, and the tree arrived with a tiny patch of moss at the base of the trunk. If I keep it moist and get light to it, it will spread to make a nice landscape look to the plant.I would order again from this company. I am thinking about trying my hand at a juniper when it gets a little warmer for shipping. Note that when this tree arrived, I thought it was going to die. However, it is thriving. Do as the instructions say and give it a couple weeks of care after it arrives. It is amazing how fast a ficus bounces back from shipping stress.

Struggling tree and TERRIBLE Customer service!!!!
So here's the deal, when I got this tree it seemed healthy. for the most part, came in good shape however the place left many wires on the tree from their shaping that had started to be grown over. This alone one could assume would be unhealthy for the tree. However, the real problem came hardly three days after getting the tree wherein all the leave over a two-day span went from green- to brown speckles- to shriveled and black. The black coloring even started going down the green stems to the branches.Of course, I was terrified and got in contact with many other tree owners through forums and shared pictures and thoughts back and forth. We all agreed that the tree must be sick in some way- be it soil of fungus base we were unable to tell. So in a risky and fear driven state for my tree, I did what I was instructed by friends and trimmed away all the blackening parts to stop the spread. This only left about ten left near the top of the tree alive. It is now making an ever slow and careful recovery but Sadly I don't think it will ever look quite the same. The real problem, however, is with the company, you see the day my tree started to brown I tried to get ahold of them on Amazon- which is sadly not an option. Thus with some searching, I found their base website and contacted them to ask what I should do and if at the very least they would allow me to return this tree and get another healthier one. They, of course, did not respond. AT ALL.So the next day as the leaves turned black I called their company line to now asked for some action to be taken as anyone can agree that blackening leaves is not healthy. The woman who took the call was rude and short with me while I stayed calm and apologized for any misunderstanding I might have with the trees state but that I would like something to be done. The woman then went to blame me and say that I likely let the plant outside in the winter- which while I am in Oregon and can attest to winter this year- for the whole week I had gotten it the snow had been long gone and had been in the 60-70s all week. So frankly I was offended by this. After that, she told me to send an email to her personal company email so she can look at photos of the tree and then we could talk from there. I still stayed ever kind and allowed the woman to be short with me as I explained that I will send them as soon as I get to a computer after my lunch break at work. With an Email sent to her, I waited. And waited.Sure enough, it has been over two weeks and they have never responded and now for having this tree for a month, they will not hold up the end of their 30-day policy even though I tried in vain to get in contact with them a meer four-five days after getting the tree.To say the least I do not support this company and would highly suggest that you try a different or more local source for your trees. Seeing as this company willingly ignored the three different attempts in me trying to fix what is ultimately their fault.
