Maker's Mark: My Autobiography

When this book arrived, as soon as I took it from the box, I started to read it. It was something I had wanted to know and the firsthand story made it all the more interesting. I know why somethings at this distillery are what they are, as it was explained and certainly made perfect sense. It was also filled with wonderful pictures that delighted the senses, while I read the story. It was fact filled and I am going to share this with some others that have a love for what this little maker of fine distilled spirits produces. Makers Mark, now is even more special, since I know the history behind what goes into each bottle.

This book is a slim high quality book decribing with many images the history and philosophy of Makers Mark as well as making it. Bill Jr. guides through the book giving a clear picture about the destillery. Personally I like this Bourbon and have been interested how this is made and what persons stand behind.Sadly enough family Samuels as sold with the Beam desillery to a japanese company. A heritage is no longer in local ownership.

This is a really well done autobiography of the son of the founder of Makers Mark. His family originally made TW Samuels whisky but sold that business. Bill is an old college friend so I can relate to this book very well. I knew his parents and can tell you that the content of his auto. is accurate. I think anyone can enjoy the way in which Bill presents the history of Makers Mark and his part in making the brand so successful over the last 30+ years. Bill is a true original in marketing the Makers Mark product/brand.

The book itself is wonderful so far (I've not finished reading it), the photos are eye catching and wonderfully detailed.I was a little concerned with the shipping, a tracker sticker was affixed to the cover and no safeguards for the book. Luckily, I was able to remove the sticker and all residue with minimal effort.

Fun book to read assuming you're interested in the family history behind a great icon: Maker's Mark. Part autobiographical and part shameless product promotion. This is a fast, quick read. Lots of pics too. Why couldn't my mandatory reading in HS have been this easy? :)I was first exposed to Maker's Mark Whisky in the 1970s in Kentucky by a work colleague. Maker's was relatively unknown at the time, and years before being acquired by Hiram Walker in 1981...first of many new corporate owners over the years since. Today, Maker's is receiving more investment by its new owner, Suntory Holdings.So I was curious to learn more about Maker's origins to make a new style of Whisky that is softer on the palate.
