Great sign -- until it was stolen
I bought this sign several years ago and loved it. As others have stated, it had a more dignified look to it, which is what appealed to me. I was tired of the harassing knocks on my door, particularly at dinner time, and I knew that legally I had to have a "no soliciting" sign posted if I wanted to alert a peace officer. When I received it, the sign did need to be weatherproofed in some way, since I was hanging it outside our front door. I sprayed it with a clear coat acrylic seal that didn't take but an afternoon to dry, and that did the trick. The sign had been hanging at my front door above my doorbell for about 3 or so years. We still would get people who would disregard the sign. Some just wouldn't read it -- and some actually didn't know what "soliciting" meant. One time we discovered the sign missing only to find it thrown in our bushes. Within the last few days, though, we have had two very zealous door-knockers (despite all four of our dogs getting out with teeth bared to meet one of the crews) come to our door. We were quite irate and responded with "don't you see the sign?" And then the next day we noticed our sign was GONE. Literally gone --I wish there was some way to permanently affix this sign to your outside door location so that it could not be stolen. I had it hooked on a screwed-in cup hook in the wood siding and now I'm reluctant to buy another one. I'm going to have to find something that permanently screws in to the wood so that it can't be lifted in a flash.I liked this sign -- A LOT -- but wish it could have been mounted to prevent it from being ripped off.EDIT 1/25/13: After having my sign stolen, I was so angry and back in the market for another "No soliciting" sign. I combed the pages and pages of Amazon and couldn't find one that I liked as much as this one. So I went ahead and bought another one.Once again, I gave it a quick spray with acrylic coating to weatherproof it. This is really easy to do if you have spray acrylic, as you can hold the sign by the wire hanger and just spray the entire sign all around. It will dry in about 15 minutes. Done. But, alas, now I have it hung at my front door with a different hook. I took out the old cup hook (which made it real easy to put on and take off) and found a small eye screw. Pulled out my pliers and opened up that eye just enough to get the wire hook in, then wedged it closed again. I then screwed that eye hook into the siding where the cup hook was. I DEFY anyone to steal my sign now!So for those of you that purchase this sign: treat it with acrylic coating (a snap to do) and secure it with an eye screw so that no one will steal it. It really is a nice sign, which is why I purchased it AGAIN.

Looks good maybe too good because they keep knocking on my door!
I ordered this in February 2015 and wanted to leave a review. The sign still looks new and the flower decoration is rather attractive. My front door is under an overhang that is sheltered from rain so that might be why the sign has held up so well. I don't mind meeting new people but we all know too often solicitors can be abusive and I like the fact this sign doesn't come across as being rude. Now far as it working for keeping solicitors away from my home well rather poorly! Laugh out loud maybe their attracted to the flowers! On a serious note at the entrance of my community is a sign that says "deed restricted community no soliciting allowed" but they still come in so I don't actually fault the sign.5 Star Product - Thumbs Up!

Sign is PERFECT! Beautiful, subtle, yet VERY effective!
I emailed the vendor about how big it was and got a quick reply. I even found out that I could get other signs such as "Do Not Disturb" when I was sleeping...any customized phrase I wanted. The vendor was receptive and very nice! Everyone here had beautiful wreathes, dried flowers in vases by the door. But when I started getting ministry representatives, local churches offering barbecues, Avon and Mary Kay cosmetic salesladies, and THEN people coming by asking for money "just until payday." Well it got to be too much. And our complex specifically says NO Soliciting in the lease! Then I found out that these folks asking for money were "supporting" gambling habits (lottery tickets at the local BP) and a alcohol problem...watched taxis delivering 6 packs of beer. Most "No Soliciting" signs are hard and abrasive-NO KNOCKING in brass and black. Hardly the message I wanted to get across in my new apartment complex. I felt bad for their addiction...but I needed to stop enabling.. I wanted a sign that was gentle but EFFECTIVE! And it works! My neighbors are impressed and want some for themselves.Sign is PERFECT! 3/4 inch solid piece of real wood. Sanded and shaped with lovely painted words.

Nice looking, and it works!
I was constantly getting flyers stuck on my door and regularly had people coming to my door selling things. I bought this sign to try and deter some of them.It looks much nicer than a plastic or metal sign and is much friendlier looking. I think the size is great--plenty large enough for people to read from 10 feet away.I have a video camera setup to review my front door, walkway, and porch and I've already seen two people walk up, read the sign, and turn around before getting to my porch. So it does appear that they are reading it and respecting it.As another reviewer suggested, I sprayed the wood with several coats of a clear gloss spray paint to protect it.And I have a metal security door, so I removed the included wire from the sign and instead used small screws to attach the sign to the security door. It's one of the best home improvement investments I've made.

Great purchase
Love the sign, it says "leave me alone" without being rude. I would have given it 5 stars if it came with a sealant on it. When we moved to "the burbs" during the warmer months we would get 2 to 3 people per week. We've had the sign for about a month now and only 2 people ignored it, one was a 10 year old who probably had no idea what soliciting meant and the other was a man who, when my husband pointed out the sign he replied "I'm not soliciting, I'm offering you and your neighbors a special...." and that is when he got the door shut in his face. Also it shipped very fast. Extremely happy with our purchase.
