Special gifts for special family members

I bought two: one for my grandson in high school that may have to share with his parents and older sister, but they are all avid readers. The other one is for my other daughter, and I may have to see if she will share it with the local family.I think we'll worth the money, but I learned some things when I had to buy four complete sets of the Harry Potter series after bringing back the first book from the UK shortly after it was released there and months before US release. My kids got into many battles before it became available. I think they still reread it each year. I got me an audiobook set because I traveled so much. It was fought over a lot, tooI tend to pick good books most of the time, but who can argue with the Lord of the Ring series author?

Very Slay

I love the Tolkien books and all the lore so I was really excited about this book! The inside cover is beautiful and the gold lining is a very nice touch.

Excellent reference that's true to Tolkien's writings

Excellent reference that's true to Tolkien's writings. The author doesn't insert his own messages or themes and stays true to Tolkien's timeless lore.

Great Resource, but…

Great resource- there are a few errors.

Interesting read if you are a middle earth fan

The book is beautifully made and bound in high quality materials. The content is somewhat redundant, however, it is thought provoking. The author uses a a good deal of literary assumption and presents it as fact when comparing Tolkien’s literary influences to his middle earth works, which is a bit off putting if you are a Tolkien fan. However, it is overall a good read worth your time

nice experience

I liked the quality of the bounding, the golden painting in the sheets' edge, and of course the quality of the content. A really useful guide to understand Tolkien's world. Very good purchase ;-)

Gorgeous, but arrived damaged

I was so excited for this to come, but it came in the midst of a room transfer so was put aside so I could focus on the move. As I was organizing new space I found this package. I ripped it open and was immediately in love with the detail & guided edges. That admiration began to diminish upon opening the book to find the binding broken leading to damage. Sadly, I'm 5 days outside my replacement window so no refund or replacement. I'm hoping to reorder at a later date and hoping the quality of the book will be more intact.

Fantastic Tolkiens World

An amazing book on Tolkiens world with beautiful illustrations throughout. The front and back cover are a beautiful premium (faux) leather with a wonderful fabric bookmark inclosed in the centre with gold edging on the paper. The book itself is absolutely fascinating and would highly recommend for old and new Tolkien fans.My only gripe is the large sticker on the back which i assume would damage the leather if removed so will have to live with that,as seen in my pictures attached.

Nice book. Ruined by bad artwork.

Nicely bound faux leather book. However the artwork inside is mostly by Ian Miller, whose style in my opinion doesnt suit Tolkien. Everyone has their own taste with art. For me John Howe and Alan Lee are far better at capturing the atmosphere and essence of Tolkiens work. Millers work for me is to spidery and Gothic looking.

An encyclopedia on Tolkiens hostory and mythos of tolkiens world

A lovely book, with a faux leather cover and plentiful illustrations. This book is an encyclopedia on Tolkien's history and mythos of Tolkien's world NOT an encyclopedia on middle earth. Rather then a retelling of events/history of a character in the books etc.... The contents provide short articles of the prominent people and places in Middle Earth and how they were inspired.
