Q: are the c clamp parts plastic or metal

I think aluminum if not metal. Not plastic for sure. This chair is strong. Great buy. With knobs to tighten you are comfortable with your child in it.

Q: How much of a lip (how many inches from the edge inwards) on the table is required for the clamps to be secured?

I have a table that only has a 2inc lip, this chair has been safe. Baby is 21lbs. Can't respond with more info than that. Hope that helps.
