Perfect book, damaged by Amazon.
I took one star off because Amazon put a soft cover book in a padded envelope and there are now dents from shipping in the cover and pages. This is a great reference book! I absolutely love seeing Mucha’s sketches along size finished works in color and black and white. There are only 8 full color pages so if that important to you consider another book in addition to this. I would say this is a great addition to any artist library.

Not a lot of good drawings
The book is somehow good, but seriously the internet has better drawings of Mucha's than this book.

Very inspiring
Alphonse Mucha was an exceptional talent. At times, his combination of graphic imagery and realistic rendering seem effortless. This book reveals how much preparation, practice and thumbnail work go into each meticulous project. Of course it doesn't hurt when one possesses such raw natural talent from the start.I find his work inspiring on many different levels.

Good Find!
Love this book, its a great breakdown of the artists drawings and ideas to creating some of his most well know pieces. The rough sketches in this book really let me observe some his techniques and processes that I've always been curious about. Good find!

Drawings of Mucha by Dover press
this is just fine, drawings of Mucha and his artwork of table ware and dresses and girls and sketches of posters. none finished like in other books, a nice cheap series published by the only people who remember the arts of the past Dover Publishing. i have more Dover art books than any other publisher. i also love Alphonse Mucha the master of Art Nouveau. i have sense high school, now 40 years ago. well done.

Mucha what can I say he was fantaastic.
This book shows more of his process of how he developed the layout and compositionsthan the finished piece. Nice to see the development of some of he finest Art Nouveau Styleever done. The man was a master what else needs to be said?

Behind the Scenes
I consider this to be a "behind the scenes" Mucha book because really that is what it is, for all intents and purposes. But that's a good thing. The illustrations are mainly of the original pencils, the layouts etc that went into making his masterpieces. For the art lover and artist alike, it is an interesting book because there is a certain charm that is found in seeing now famous paintings and how they were originally conceived on paper, months and maybe years before they were brought to the public as finished pieces. You can see every line and intention on display here, including the sweeping lines and design elements that Mucha is known for. There are about nine coloured paintings in the centre of the book, and while I have heard complaints that there were not enough colour images included, I really feel that nine images are ample to give the viewer/reader the idea of what his work looks like coloured as a comparison. There are all kinds of art nouveau books out there that has Mucha's coloured work on display. In fact, it's Mucha's work that seems to be the focal point for many of them. This is why Dover's Drawings of Mucha really has no need of more coloured pieces. It's primary focus, thankfully, is on the sketches themselves. In most artist's sketches before the final painting or illustration, there's a certain kind of "life" that exists all on its own, that often does not translate fully into the final piece. Now, that is not to say that the final piece is lacking, because often it is not, but the final piece and the sketch often have unique elements pertaining to each of them that an art lover can notice. It's a good book to leaf through when the inspiration well is a little dry. Highly recommended.

A wonderful insight into the artist's techniques
This is another of the many Dover Art books I’ve bought on Amazon. They’re short (this one is 57 pages and just over A4 in size) and reasonably priced. In fact this was a used copy I found on Amazon for less than a fiver. I have to say that of all my Mucha books I found this one to be the most intriguing. The book shows 70 of Mucha’s works, 9 of them in colour. Although some of the colour ones look like the printed posters we’re used to they are, in fact, coloured lithographs or sketches. However, it’s the pencil drawings I love the most. You can see where the artist had an idea, sketched it out, changed his mind and over-wrote the original concept. Comparing his sketches with the finished articles is fascinating and adds to the pleasure of Mucha’s work.

A ''must have'' Mucha.....
This is a slim paperback book of good size that contains a great deal of super drawings by Mucha , just as you would wish for and expect in a book of this price range. There are a few colour plates which are superfluous because if you are interested in Muchas' artwork you will already have at least one of the lovely volumes out there which contain plenty of colour plates and it was previously unseen sketches and drawings I wished to see and this book has exactly that.A sweet book which forms a good addition to my many Mucha art books and a good addition to my extensive art book collection.

Romantics and stylish drawings.
Lovely romantic drawings and paintings to enjoy - but you can also learn a lot about composition if you are an artist.
