... to the 2015 Consumer Report rating it as the best mattress for side and stomach sleepers
I purchased this due to the 2015 Consumer Report rating it as the best mattress for side and stomach sleepers, which is what I am. Now to be fair, my previous mattress had a 4 inch memory foam topper which was AMAZINGLY soft and easy to fall asleep in. However after 7 years of sleeping on it, I decided it was time for a replacement as I started having severe back pain when I woke up.I say this because I think it's important for the reader to understand that I prefer a softer mattress, but recognized that a firm one was probably better for my back. So I bought this in "plush firm", hoping it would be a good middle ground.Ok so I've been sleeping on it about a week now and it is terribly firm. So firm in fact, that I'm having a hard time falling asleep on it. However with that said, I am waking up without any pain and interestingly enough, I'm also needing less sleep. So I was at a loss for how to rate this mattress as it is good for your back, but for folks like me who prefer softer, it is a serious adjustment comfort wise.So I've decided to keep it, but I am going to add a 2" memory foam topper, to help me fall asleep and I'm hoping it isn't so soft that I'm back in pain again. If you like firm mattresses though, you will probably love this one and it does provide everything it says as far as back support and a good nights rest goes.

One Month In: Happy with My New Serta iSeries Vantage Firm Mattress
I purchased the Serta iSeries Vantage Firm mattress in November. We've been sleeping on it for a month now and I'm very happy with my purchase. I don't mind a hard mattress. This mattress offers good support and doesn't feel too firm. Both my husband and I are sleeping better. We replaced a 4 year old Simmons Beautyrest Queen Anniversary Cypress Hill mattress that had deep divots and was contributing to back aches/problems. Before that we had another Serta mattress and it was great. After a month of sleeping on it, I am hopeful the Serta iSeries Vantage Firm is another great mattress.Note: I had read the Consumer Reports mattress report, which said the Serta iSeries Applause mattress was a top pick. The Applause is no longer manufactured. There was a Vantage mattress in that report, but it wasn't an iSeries (hybrid innerspring with gel foam). The distributor called me to tell me that the iSeries Applause got some improvements and was rebranded the iSeries Vantage. If you're considering: One of the reports said that the more padding (softer) your bed is when you buy it, the more likely it is to develop divots. There is an iSeries Vantage Plush mattress that was available on Amazon as well. The only way I could tell the difference was by the quilting (the Firm mattress has a lot of quilted circles, tightly distributed. The Plush mattress has many fewer quilted circles)Also: My mattress came with the low profile boxspring / platform (there was a question from another user about which boxspring/platform shipped with this mattress). It's nice. The only hassle was delivery: The local firm that delivered the shipment to our door wanted additional payment to bring the mattress in the house and set it up in the bed upstairs. And they would not take the old mattress with them. But we worked through that.

Not up to it's previous reviews!
The reviews on this mattress stated that the firm really amounted to a medium. It was really firm. After about two months the mattress had two sort of grooves or depressions in it where my wife and I slept though neither of us are very heavy (188 & 165 pounds). We both find it painful to lay in one position for very long. We will get rid of it as soon as we can obtain a replacement.

Excellent
This mattress is really GREAT. It makes a huge improvement in my sleeping, really. It was a nightmare getting it up 2 flights of townhouse stairs (both with a bend/landing) but we did it. I recommend going for the $99 delivery-install fee if you have stairs.

Buyer Beware! This Mattress Does Not Last Long!
After going to several stores and trying countless mattresses at different price points, my husband and I purchased a Serta iSeries Applause Firm (King) mattress and box springs set in September 2013 from a national department store chain that starts with JC and ends with Penney to the tune of $2324.04 (on sale). While we were initially very pleased with the comfort and the fact that it does not retain body heat, it just has not held up well. It has sagged terribly! As long as a year ago, 2 very distinct body depressions where he and I sleep and a huge hump in the middle started developing so it looks like the mattress is 50 years old instead of less than 3 years old. (Photos attached but believe me, in person the bed looks much worse than what the camera was able to pick up.) Every time I walk past the bed and see those deep depressions and the hump in the middle, it makes me really angry because this was a significant amount of money for us to spend on a bed and I really thought we were getting something that would last us more than 3 years! I feel like I've been royally ripped off by Serta. I've also developed some low back pain in the past 10 months and while I can't positively say it is due to the sagging mattress, I certainly can't rule it out either.I recently called about having the mattress replaced under the warranty so a furniture inspector came out to look at it this past week. He took measurements by throwing a string with a weight on one end over the top of the mattress (from side to side). The body depressions measured 1/2 inch which, according to the manufacturer, is "normal" so of course, they will not replace it. For warranty replacement they require the depressions to be 1.5 inches or more so based on the depressions in my photo that measured only 1/2 inch, can you imagine how deep a 1.5 inch depression would have to be?! Even a depression 1 inch deep would surely be most uncomfortable to sleep on so 1.5 inches is just ridiculous!Note: It is my understanding the "Applause" is now known as the "Vantage." Unless Serta changed more than the name of this mattress, you would be wise to spend your hard-earned money on something else. Avoid the "Applause" at any cost and be extremely wary of the "Vantage."
