Why pay double for ring elite, pay for installation of poe ethernet wire? isn't ring pro with wifi good enough? anything i am missing something?

There are many reasons that you would pay extra for PoE. The primary reason is because your house may be behind a gate and you have to put the ring doorbell on the gate not the house, a 50' Ethernet cord is included so we know that it can be used 50' from your house if not further. A strong wifi signal 50' or more from the house is unlikely and even if it's good can be compromised by multiple neighboring wifi signals, older cars with coil ignition systems, mining machinery, factories with multiple motors etc. You might also have someone in the house with sensitivity to radio frequencies or medical devices that are compromised by the presence of wifi. Wired devices are generally much more reliable at sending out alerts and transferring continuous data without interruption. And then there are people who will not use wifi on security devices because professional thieves often use a machine to jam the wifi spectrum with a machine that generates radio interference and renders devices useless while they break in or case the place.

Is there an rtsp stream that can be accessed on the local network?

Yes but you’ll have to hack it. And then it changes all the time. Get a doorbird or Dbell. Both are poe, Ethernet connected, record to your NVR and or a cloud service of your choice. Or wait another few months for a decent HomeKit enabled one. F ring.

Can i use any poe switch to power the ring elite or do i have to use the poe injector it comes with?

You can use either the included POE power injector or a POE switch. The Ring Video Doorbell Elite supports both the IEEE 802.3af (PoE) or 802.3at (PoE+) standards so ensure that your switch is capable of using either one. Also, if you are using a POE switch, look at the switch's rated POE wattage especially if you are wiring in multiple POE devices. This is to ensure that the wattage totals of the POE devices do not exceed the switch's POE wattage rating.

Can i record video to a nas rather than use the cloud storage with monthly charges?

Hi Peter G Truitt, The only way to access the video directly is from the Ring app at this time. Our optional cloud service plan for $3/month allows you to access/download/share past Ring videos. Without this service, you'll still receive real-time video alerts on your smartphone as well as have access to Live View.
