Q: Can you use this with a Macbook air 2020?

I would avoid buying this one. I had to send it back for not working. I suggest a Microsoft Bluetooth Mobile Mouse 3600 which I bought instead - and you can switch it off! Works fine with Windows and probably with Mac but better check!

Q: Does this have a 'back' button?

No. Just left and right click plus a scroll wheel.

Q: how do you turn off, eg. if not in use or travelling

Hold down the Bluetooth button on the bottom until it starts flashing, then single press again and the light goes out - No need to remove batteries, it will stay off during travels.
