I am looking for a mic to use for hybrid zoom/in person via ipad or laptop . something that we use with 3 or 4 panelists?

The BOYA BY-M1 PRO is a reliable lavalier microphone. I primarily use it connected to a small transmitter which relays my voice to the camera. I have also made hardwired test recordings. The microphone combines reasonable sensitivity with reasonable plosive and background noise rejection. The BOYA BY-M1 PRO is omnidirectional, so it does pickup sound from all directions. It has the fairly flat frequency response expected of a condenser microphone. This makes it an excellent microphone for speech. However, Its low end response makes it unsuited for music recording. The BOYA BY-M1 PRO has an amplifier module and a 3.5mm TRRS (stereo) plug. The amplifier (used when connected to a camera) can be switched off when it is not needed and it has a -10dB switch intended to reduce plosives when the subject is closely miked. (Smart phones work with passive microphones, so the battery need not even be installed if you only plan on using the device with a smart phone or an iPad.) You will want to pickup a Bidirectional USB-C or Firewire adapter depending upon the connectors on the devices that your hoping to use the microphone with. A unidirectional adapter will not convert the analog output from your microphone and deliver it to your computer or iPad.
