wanted something to watch a hdmi camera stream. this was easy and works well with osb and vlc. this one has a few extra features and bigger than just a usb dongle type. works well!

The software for this capture card literally comes on a small cd, so it's only possible to make it work if you somehow have a cd reader on your computer in the year 2024. So you'd have to buy an external DVD reader to make it work, which is extra money that's not worth buying for a cheap capture card like this. Don't buy this garbage.

The comments and opinions are based on my knowledge of similar products and experience using the product listed.While this little device isn't going to win any Oscars in the film industry, it was very simple to install and operate. From opening the box and hooking it up to capturing the attached video took all of 5 minutes. To be truthful, I did not do any tweaking of the accompanying software I loaded from the Setup mini-CD, but with that I was impressed with the ease at which it recorded the HDMI pass-through. You will probably notice the colors are a bit off in the capture. Not sure if that can be tweaked but probably with enough time, it may be possible. But for personal use to capture something from an old VHS home movie to digital data stream this should be the ticket and at $20 it's not going to break the bank either. I used a video I had on hand, a 4K video stream from my Rove Dash camera in the car. I played it using the supplied POTPLAYER playback software and used the supplied AMCAP Capture software to capture the HDMI video stream. There is no audio on the sample captured video, but I expect that it would be there had I had audio recording enabled on the ROVE camera in the car. If you're wanting a quick simple way to capture some old home movies or anything LEGAL that is streamed through HDMI, then this is the item you need. Check it out.
