Decent Value/Easy to use
Arrived quickly and seems to work fine. Tested it against known motor spindle RPM based on calculations. Read low by about 1.5%. This is well within expected measurement uncertainty.

Fast !
This replaced the first one. It didn’t work. I returned it. The replacement arrived yesterday. Works perfect. Took less than 32 hours from the I returned the first one. Great job Amazon!!!!

First unit defective, second works well enough to be worth $15
The first one of these I got could not measure RPM. I would press the Test button and see a very faint red laser dot on the target and the display would show 0 RPM with the low battery icon lit but the display was so dim it had to be viewed at an extreme angle or a flashlight had to be shone on it. Pressing the Mem button would show the display at normal brightness. I tried 3 different batteries measuring up to 9.67V and I also tried a 9.37V wall power supply. I even kicked the wall power supply to 12V for a few seconds but it made no difference (probably not a safe thing to do even for a few seconds, but curiosity got the best of me). A few of the other one star reviews reported similar problems. They shipped me a replacement for free before I returned the broken one and it arrived in two days and functions fine. I used it to measure the speed of an AC blower motor as 1130 to 1132rpm, and the readings were the same when I double checked the next day. The fan motor is supposed to run at 1075rpm so the tachometer may be reading fast, but it's close enough to prove the motor isn't failing and you can't expect high accuracy for $15.Be careful when inserting a 9V battery because it can be pressed in with the wrong polarity far enough to touch the contacts. I did that on the broken unit and it makes me wonder if that's what caused it to fail. It should have protection circuitry but that circuitry may be of low quality and it may have failed. Then again, no other reviewers I could find reported it working until they put a battery in backwards, so it's probably not related. Of course, if you're prone to putting batteries in backward, it may be a good idea to do it on purpose to test the protection circuit while you're still in the return window. The case is a nice touch and has a pocket for the instruction manual plus a holder for a length of reflective tape. Only thing missing is a scissors. Other reviewers say the tachometer burns through batteries even when not in use so I suggest storing it without a battery.

Worked once and died
Used this exactly twice. New battery and the first use it seemed to work well and accurately. Minutes later, and just then second time of use, it won’t turn on at all. This is just junk.

Need a better description
I went back and read the description, no where does it say you have to use a reflective tape to it to work, but they do provide the tape, only problem is I bought it to measure dc motor RPMs and the gear on them doesn't really lend itself to having tape stuck to it and spun up so in that application it appears useless unless I can figure something else out

This is a great tool.
I love this tool. I know the rpm of everything i ever wanted to know. And I write the rpm on the motor, or what ever i measure. Plus you always know if you've measured it because of the little metallic sticker.
