RCA RACE8002E 8,000 BTU 115V Window Air Conditioner with Remote Control

This unit is FANTASTIC! And quiet and cools my 320 sq ft room within minutes of turning it on. It is on the bigger side of the smaller units (if that makes sense). It is best if two people lift it into the window. It is super easy to set up and the remote is everything. I cannot say enough good things about the RCA 8,000 BTU window air conditioner. I live in California and even though it is a dry heat it gets outrageously hot. The energy saver mode is a dream <3

Easy to install and run great and is quiet.

This thing turns our house into a refrigerator, Very happy, even though the first one we received looked like it did 2 tours in Iraq and had to be returned for a replacement, there literally was a rock sticking out the side of the box when it was delivered. Its was replaced without hesitation and everything was made right. I am a very happy customer.

Went to all of the trouble to install this RCA Air Conditioner...it did not work right out of the box. It does not blow cold air, even at the coldest setting. To top it off, there is no customer service number anywhere in the instruction Manuel. I notice there are several customer reviews that identify the same issue. I wish I would have read the reviews before I purchased this item! BUYER BEWARE! This air conditioner is a rip off. Furthermore, there is no option to exchange it. You can only return it for a refund, you can't exchange it, which would be my preference. Pick another air conditioner, don't buy this one.

This RCA air conditioner requires some light assembly out of the box, to insert the baffles and also to attach the window bracket to the top of the unit using the 4 included Philips head screws. The installation instructions include detailed illustrations that I found to be helpful, especially when it came to installation of the baffles. The dimensions of the air conditioner are 18-5/8 W x 12/1/8 H, not including the window bracket and the baffles. I purchased this unit based on the dimensions stated in the product description, for installation in-wall, but realized that I could have gone larger in size to fill up the space and reduce the need for trim. The unit is easy to operate, but I dislike the array of buttons on the front of the unit and the small size of the green LED display which is impossible to read unless you are standing at arms length from the unit. Operation on low fan speed is very quiet, but gets increasing louder on higher fan settings and is too loud at the highest fan speed for normal conversation in the room. The adjustable vent at the top of the unit is flimsy plastic and does not allow for much direction of air flow. The power cord is about 5-ft in length, so I was able to reach a nearby outlet without an appliance extension cord. The remote control is as basic as they come. The battery cover for the remote control is made of soft plastic that is easily marred, so be sure to use a Quarter rather than a flat head screwdriver. After removing the battery cover, I was unable to reinstall it with the included battery installed, so I will need to contact Curtis Int'l., RCA's warranty fulfillment provider, to obtain a replacement remote control. This air conditioner is a good value for the price, and it works well to cool the 300 q. ft. space it is installed, but the low quality is obvious right out of the box. I'm hopeful this unit will last a few years, as it will only see use 6-7 months a year. I'll periodically update this review so please check back.
