Silent Pictures

then buy this book and be stoked on all the amazing pictures Pat Graham took!! This book has a ton of rare stuff from Riot Grrrl pics. to indie rock from different regions like DC, KY, Chicago and as far out as San Diego. I highly recommend this book if you love bands on K, Thrill Jockey, Dischord + some of the other labels that drove indie rock when it was still actually independent rock.

I enjoyed the pictures

I am pretty familiar with most of the bands in this book, but completely unfamiliar with the photographer. It is pretty DC-centric (Bikini Kill, Fugazi, the Make-up, etc.) but covers a wide range of the landscapes touring bands come across. Shots of Montana are amongst my favorite in this book. I wouldn't put this above Charles Peterson in terms of quality, but it's a nicely put together book and a ton of emotion comes through these photographs. Ian Mackaye has a quote about not even recognizing the detail photo of his own guitar in the foreward. It's a fitting quote and an even better photo. The cover photo is completely misleading. Or is it?
