Budgie :Impeckable (1978)................2010 remastered edition
Interesting album, imagine my shock having jumped aboard the Budgie bandwagon with the outstanding heavy metal of 1980's 'Power Supply' release, working my way back thru their previous releases ..this was my next purchase. Wow gone were the snarling riffs and a much more laid back approach.Over the years it has grown on me,i can appreciate the other influences creepin in,especially american,a bit of Aerosmith here (Im A Faker Too),southern rock there (Dish It Up) plus a less metallic sound, more a Free/Bad Co strut on occassion (Dont Dilute The Water/Love For You and Me).In hindsight this was a band trying something different, searching for a hit?,certainly other bands in future years would hit big with short snappy tunes like 'Melt The Ice Away',its a crime that they didnt succeeed,' 'Smile Boy Smile' is another that deserved better and what about 'Dont Go Away'.after a couple of minutes of acoustic ,we get a beautiful solo,if Wishbone Ash or Thin Lizzy had done it we would have loved it, a real shame this album deserves better. The remaster has several bonus tracks including a couple of 2008 re-records both of which are pretty good. The enhanced video clips are ok nothing special.Sound Quality is excellent and as usual a decent booklet with authorative liner notes.

sounded like a track on 'Britannia'
The last album with Tony Bourge on guitar. I had expected more, I think but as the sleeve notes say, the guitar parts weren't mixed to be that heavy. To me, it lacked the enthusiasm and energy of previous Budgie albums, as if their minds weren't on the job in hand. I believe that there were family problems and the band split up shortly afterwards. One track, I can't remember which, sounded like a track on 'Britannia'. Not my favourite Budgie album for sure. One to get for completeness only! That's a little unfair. "Smile Boy Smile" and "I'm a Faker Too" weren't too bad.
