When I couldn't find a suitable shelf locally , I turned to Amazon. This shelf unit was the size I needed, and sounded perfect for my needs...but after reading lots of the reviews, I wasn't sure.... some said it was light weight but sturdy, some said lightweight and flimsy, many complained about it arriving damaged and with missing parts.... but I took a chance and ordered it. When it arrived, the box indeed showed a lot of scuffing, a few places slightly torn and dented in, so I wasn't sure what shape the shelf would be in. There was quite a bit of styrofoam packing, and no major damage to box, so fortunately, the only part that was damaged was a small area in the cardboard back piece that was dented and partly torn. Since the unit is being used in a closet for supplies, toiletries etc, it wouldn't show, so I just put a piece of wide clear tape over it. Indeed, the individual shelves feel surprisingly light weight, but they are also thicker than the usual laminate shelves I've had. They actually feel quite sturdy. The side pieces were much heavier. The little pegs used for the movable shelves had a little projection on the top that fit precisely into a little hole on each shelf, making them more stable, and the shelf won't slide. The unit went together easily, my husband and I working together, and is perfect for the closet storage. I'm glad I took the chance...but I figured, since it is stated as being eligible for return, that if it was damaged and unusable, it could be returned at Kohls Amazon Return area.

1. Well made, and the pieces fit together well, all pieces are clearly labeled.2. All parts needed are included including wall attachment brackets with screws and 4, felt feet if your placing it on a non-carpeted floor). You will need a standard, Phillips head screwdriver and a hammer to assemble.3. Instruction manual is clear and easy to understand.4. Assembly time is about 30 minutes. One person can easily assemble this bookcase and stand it upright (I'm 67 and did it myself).5. Extremely sturdy and attractive. Thick construction of shelves and the cabinet will prevent bowing and sagging. The way the pieces are made allows for the thickness without the added weight.6. I ordered a white bookcase, and the color is bright white.7. This item is a bit pricier than similar bookcases from competitors, but the quality and appearance more than make up for the price difference. Well worth the money.8. Just ordered a second bookcase and will post photos when the remodeling project is complete.9. FYI. When opening the box, it's easier to open the ends and slide the pieces out than trying to open the box lengthwise and lift the pieces out.

I never have high expectations for furniture that I buy online and have to assemble myself. I decided on these, because they fit my space--a 93" wide closet that I wanted to convert to an out-of-sight library. I bought 3 of the 30" wide 5-shelf bookcases. Well, I'll tell you, I have never been more happy with any self-assembled furniture! It was a piece of cake to assemble and could easily be done by one fairly capable adult. It is very solid and sturdy, but not so heavy that I couldn't tip it up and place it myself. I had an 11 yr old helper, and it took us about 30 minutes to put the first one together, but the other two only took about 15 minutes each. I will say that the box it arrives in is big and heavy, but we were home at the time they were delivered and the driver put them straight into my garage. We opened the boxes in the garage and brought in the pieces as we needed them. I would 100% recommend these bookcases. My only complaint is that when I just came here to write a review I see that they are on a big sale! I paid $204 each only two weeks ago, and now they're $173, so that's a bummer.

This looks nice in our hallway and gives us a lot of extra space for books and toys. It feels very lightweight and kind of cheap for its size, but seems study enough when it’s put together and attached to the wall at the top. (You definitely need to attach it to the wall to keep it from tipping.)I’ve put together a lot of flat pack furniture over the years, and this went together quite nicely. The packaging, instructions, and ease of assembly were very good for something in this price range.It’s not heirloom furniture, but it works nicely for what we needed.

I got this to store seasonal decor in my guest room closet. I wanted it to look nice as well as be sturdy and have adjustable shelves. This was easy to assemble and is extremely durable and capable of holding a good bit of weight on any shelf. It has a nice look to it and doesn’t look cheap. I’m super happy with it.
