I like this so far
I like this so far. But I am not sure how long I can use this. I used Dirt Devil, it was good for a year only.

Good For Light Duty
This is a replacement for another Dirt Devil vacuum we had for close to 15 yrs. We have essentially all wood floors with a rug in our family room. The vacuum is fine for the rug and use on the wood floors. The hose attachment for corners and narrow spots works fine. This is not a vacuum for heavy duty use. If our home had carpet throughout I would buy a more durable machine. Since it's for light duty work, the price made sense.Others have made comments about the cord being too short; it could be an issue if you don't have many outlets or simply don't want to keep plugging it in as you work. The electric motor on the unit is powerful. I am surprised by the amount of dirt it picks up after each use. Much more efficient than our prior vacuum with a disposable bag. There is no bag with this unit. You simply remove the canister and dump the dirt into the garbage.

Design issues outweigh combination of strong suction, dual action and an affordable price
There are more than 300 models of upright corded vacuums with HEPA filtration listed on Amazon, starting from roughly $40 to more than $1,000. The Dirt Devil Direct Power Upright Vacuum is currently priced at $59.99 with a $2 coupon and free shipping via Amazon Prime. The point is, for the price, you need to set your expectations accordingly. The Dirt Devil suffers from several design issues that make vacuuming more of a headache than need be.PROS• Suction is good. The Dirt Devil did a wonderful job on carpet but its performance was a little clunky on tile and wood floors.• The HEPA filter can be washed but you’ll need to let it dry for 24 hours before putting it back in.• The vacuum is comfortable for a 5’10” person to use.CONS• The Dirt Devil cord is too short (about 20” long).• The cord placement is bad. You have to hold the cord to avoid vacuuming over it. See the photos posted with this review.• The on/off control by foot is awkward, especially if you want to turn the vacuum off quickly. Again, see the pictures.• The vacuum is loud. After a half hour of use it will leave your ears ringing.Overall, the vacuum scores 3.5 stars for its combination of strong suction, dual action and affordable price. However, the design issues (cord and on/off controls) bring the rating down to three stars since Amazon doesn’t score half stars.Rating: Three stars

Saves my back!
We have a house of kids and a black lab that sheds like crazy. It seems like our carpets are never very clean. We've had another vacuum, but it was getting old. I didn't realize how little it was working until I used this dirt devil power upright. What I saw grossed me out! All the dirt and hair from one area rug was enough to make me gag. This vacuum was very powerful and sucked it right up.Pros:*Weighs next to nothing. I can lift it up and down stairs with almost no problems. Saves my back and my kids can lift it up and down the stairs too.*The suction is fantastic and sucks up everything, even dog hair that has been sitting in your rug for a year*The height adjustment is great for bare floors or high rugs.*The brushes underneath loosen up anything stuck in the rug*The hose attachment is great for cleaning dirty vents, ceiling fans, stairs, or couches*Easy to put together - just a few steps and you are in business*Easy to empty the dirt cylinder - just remove, tap the dirt into a garbage can, and re-insert*Filter can be washed and re-used*The vacuum comes with a crevice tool (for tight spaces) and a dusting brush (furniture, blinds, ect), as well as an extension wand for hard to reach places. These can all be attached to the vacuum.Cons:*The hose attaches at the bottom. There is a cup that snaps over when the hose is in use. Sometimes the portion of the hose that is wrapped around prevents the cap from going on, so I have to manually push it down or the suction won't work.I really love this vacuum and even with the one drawback with the cap not closing, I still would recommend this vacuum overall. I love that I can use it on anything from ceiling lint to vent covers to my dog's bed. It's versatile. I also appreciate that I don't have to do a lot of heavy lifting in order to get my house cleaned. Usually when I vacuum I end up with lower back pain from all the lifting, but this is so lightweight, it's doesn't bug my back at all. This is my new favorite cleaning tool!Update: The tools on the vacuum don't seem to stay connected. They come off and you have to push them on really hard to stay. Also the cord is much too short. The hose could be longer as well. Makes it difficult when cleaning steps to have to unplug and plug it back in again and have the hose not stay connected. I docked a star because of this.10/24/16 Update: Well, I decided to knock this unit down a bunch of stars because it doesn't even work after a few months. The suction stopped working and instead decided to spit dirt all over my carpet. i decided to purchase a dyson because I'm sick of junk vacuums breaking after a few months. When I sucked up all the dirt from my carpet with the Dyson, I knew it was because this vacuum had shot all the dog hair, dirt, ect around my house instead of sucking it up. I'm thoroughly disappointed in this unit and wouldn't recommend buying it unless you like purchasing new vacuums once a month.

You get what you pay for
This is a good use and throw vacuum. It worked well the first few days. After a while I hear just the sounds, no suction.

It does what it needs to for its price
It's nice for my little apartment. I will say it will DEFINITELY kick up dust and the suck will be very weak if you don't make sure the yellow thingy in the back isn't completely covering the hole the hose plugs into, otherwise it cleans my carpet pretty well!I wouldn't recommend this for people who intend to use this for something other than your standard carpet-vacuuming. It's not a majorly-strong vacuum but you get what you pay for!
