Great expansion for a really fun game!
Really a review for the whole game not just the expansion......Years ago we were given the base game as a gift. At first , before we opened the box , we thought it a game for younger kids. We love board games and gave it a shot anyway. Wow! So glad we did! We LOVE this game. It has different ways to play depending on the age of the players. My 5 kids now range from 24-12 and we have really enjoyed it. When we played on the hardest level it took us months to win the game. The kids would ask for this game on the nights we had free from activities. ( they actually wanted to spend time together , made my momma heart happy for sure ) The easiest set of rules would be just right for younger children. The cooperative play makes for exciting and unified game strategies with less trash talking ( well at each other anyway). The art work is wonderfully whimsical and beautifully rendered. The pieces are well thought out and made . It only goes up to 4 game players but when we have 5 players we have that extra one play the part of the ghosts. And then we found this expansion! We gave it to the "kids" for Christmas and it was the first game played that afternoon. We absolutely adore this expansion as much as we do the base game. It adds new rules, scenarios and cute artwork. Oh and the boxes stack nicely together. That makes it easier to keep them together on the shelf.A game to stay in our home for a long time for sure.

Definitely recommended - More chaos, but overall a more engaging game
I'd been greatly enjoying the base game with my kids, as well as family friends - with the latter as a casual, easy to pick up game. I ended up purchasing the Creepy Cellar Expansion with more of a 'fear of missing out' or completionist motivation, rather than having a burning desire to play it immediately. In fact, left it in shrink-wrap for a couple of weeks.Eventually opened up the box and had a game. There are a lot more moving parts than the core game, including the Ghost King moving about the board based on locations drawn from his deck, cursed treasures to hinder players while they carry them; cellar cards players must draw on return of treasures - often resulting in jinxed items that must be returned to certain rooms - or if lucky, the removal of a ghost or a free move; secret doors to enable occasional shortcuts; abductions by the ghost king - teleporting players around the map; as well as a requirement to return treasures to two different cellar rooms in a fixed sequence. I was tempted to use an alternate mode from the manual to gradually introduce the new components. However, just threw everything in to see what happened...Actually nearly beat the game in my first play with the expansion. It was only a last-second abduction by the ghost king which carted away a player away from the exit and led to a loss. Second game we won after lots of back and forth battles and random events that dragged us around the boards, and a focused team effort to cull haunters and therefore avoid a last-second chain reaction as we made our way to the exit.Thoroughly enjoyed the new remix that the expansion provides. It's more complex, sure, but never seems 'too much'. Strangely, despite all the extra barriers the game seems to be throwing against the players, it (at least on the basis of the plays so far) does not seem to be considerably harder to win.Definitely recommended. Lots more flavor leading to a slightly longer but more entertaining game.

Great production and expansion, but very difficult to win
My family and I really enjoyed the base game for this. However, the base game is on the easier side. This expansion is great, but you should know going into this, it swings the difficultly the other way. We have not beat this yet. However, I can see it is possible. We can always look back and see where we made our mistake. Great expansion!
