Don't be fooled by the picture!
If you're like me, you've not had much experience with pool temperature sensors. I was reluctant to buy this product because, what I found on the pool was a sealed black tube with a hex head to make the water seal where it screwed into the water pipe on the heater. The picture shown here didn't look at all the same. I took a flyer and bought the unit anyway and, when it arrived decided to look deeper. I discovered that there is a removable rubber cap on the top of the hex nut that the wires go through. The sensor slides down into the tube. I replaced the old one, spliced the wires and, when I turned the electric power to the unit back on, the heater began to heat the water. With the old sensor, the read out on the heat pump displayed 8 or sometimes 10. With the new one it displays the water temp (78, 80 or whatever). Have ordered another as a spare for several of us in the neighborhood.

These aren’t very accurate
Inaccurate thermistor! Temperature reading is less accurate than the one it replaced on a brand new heat pump! The resistance readings don’t come close to specs. It does allow the heater run. I just have to guess at the thermostat setting.

Didn't need this, but it's a factory OEM replacement.
Customer had a leaking concentric on their pool heater heat pump. I was contracted to replace it, after their pool service guys had the equipment shipped out to them. I changed it out and afterwards they complained of incorrect temperature sensing. Turns out I tugged on the wire during install, and pulled it half way out of the immersion well. There is a rubber cork that holds this in the 90 ell. All I had to do was put some slack in the wire and reinsert the sensor fully into the well. This may help someone else. The sensor may not be bad, it may just not be fully inserted.Otherwise... this is the OEM part you need. Exactly like factory original.
