Fantastic product
I’m so pleased with this bird feeder. After squirrels destroying my previous ones, I purchased this hoping it would deter with its screw top and large and sturdy design.. So far so good! After a few days of eyeing it up, the birds are happily eating away. Its size allows several to feed at the same time so they are happy!Update: it’s official! It’s squirrel proof! Just had two squirrels try to attack it from all angles and they have given up!🥳

Best I've had for Peanuts and Suet Pellets
I use these for peanuts and suet pellets: overall, they are the best, in terms of functionality, that I've had, as having the large lidded area prevents excessive rain rotting the contents too quickly, especially when protected from above by another type of canopy - the one containing peanuts is hanging from the platform of a squirrel feeder which forms a little roof over it, and the one with suet is on a shepherd's crook style hanger with a squirrel baffle on top. They are very sturdy, and relatively easy to clean out, unlike many others I've had. The lid is enamelled - or similar - and none of them has rusted. I haven't used any other sort for these two types of feed for some years.

Looks good and works but....
This feeder keeps the squirrels at bay but twice it has fallen down and the squirrels had a field day. My analysis is that the top isn’t securely attached and over time or on a windy day it works loose and the bottom becomes detached. There’s very little scope to twist and secure both the top and the lid of the feeder - neither is a particular good fit. Also the lid twists one way to secure it and the top twists in the opposite direction and hence it is easy to unintentionally loosen the top when securing the lid. A bad design in my opinion. A little bit of rust has developed on the lid.

Very sturdy item.
This is a very sturdy item, although it hasn't quite kept the squirrels out! We are plagued by a family of squirrels which try very hard to get at the peanuts and, the other day, I actually caught a young squirrel inside the cage, trying to gnaw his way through the metal holder. He got into quite a panic when I confronted him as he couldn't quite recall how he'd got inside, but he eventually slipped out between the bars and ran off. He was only a youngster though, so still smaller than the adults. The bigger birds, such as Jays and Woodpeckers, are less happy about the new feeder though, as they can't just cling to the outside bars to reach the inner holder, so I have to scatter the peanuts on the bird table instead, much to the delight of the adult squirrels!

If you want increased joy...
I spent a long time trying to find a matching pair of fat and peanut feeders... From the descriptions provided of the 2 I settled on, they did not match and were from different Sellers and manufacturers. Well, I am pleased to say that aside from the different tubes inside of these two, they are identical in colour, construction, effectiveness including the lid and top mechanisms which on the face of it look simple to affix but which in reality aren't that straight forward. However, once on and the feeders full, the lids remain closed and firmly in place. As with all things for outside use, they are subject to the elements but I have spent hundreds of pounds on feeders of all varieties over the years and these are the best yet. The added bonuses: 1) The little birds started taking to them within a day. 2) The squirrels, crows and magpies which used their ingenuity to sabotage all previous feeders and scare off the little birds, are no longer able to do so. I'm not cruel so feed this lot on the ground with electronic 'cat scarers' throughout the garden. 3) If you want joy, real joy added to your daily life - I would recommend these without hesitation! This is the matching Fat Snax feeder also available from Amazon: Gardman Heavy Duty Squirrel Proof Fat Snax Bird Feeder, Natural, A01822,2.8 kg (It doesn’t weigh 2.8kg as described but is heavy duty.)

Stops Big Birds!
Great for small birds. Stops the pigeons, starlings and magpies getting to the food. Would highly recommend. Very sturdy.

Not for squirrels
Very pleased with this very sturdy bird feeder, as was getting fed up with one squirrel who consistently emptied every time I filled our last one & then invited his friends for tea on a daily basis & proved very expensive to keeping refilling. He's now given up with this feeder. The birds took a little time to get used to the cage around it, but very happy now as our birds as they can rely on food being there all year round again. The design is sturdy as is the lid. Make sure you fasten it tightly though, as squirrel resistant if so! 😀

Yes, squirrel Proof .
This is a nice big feeder. So far it has been 100% squirrel proof. In some other reviews people have been saying that the lid isn’t secure, however, it is a twist on lid and the one I own is very secure. The one negative point is that the birds struggle to get at the nuts because the holes in the mesh are so small, it doesn’t stop them feeding though. This feeder and the other caged fat ball feeder we bought is saving us money on bird feed as the lazy squirrels would come into our garden first thing in the morning and pillage from the bird feeders, frightening all the small birds away. In the long term, this feeder will pay for itself. The feeder is large enough for the small birds to hop around the inside rather than lean in through the bars.
