Homedics Black & Decker 6-Sheet Crosscut Shredder (BD-61)

I've only had it a month, but it works great so far. Product is as advertised. I can shred items as small as cash register receipts or up to 81/2 " wide. I'd say 3 sheets at a times is probably the limit

This is a great price for a LIGHT DUTY cross shredder. Although it states the shredder capacity is 6 sheets at a time, actual usage demonstrates 3 sheets to be a more accurate number. Anything more and you can hear the motor strain. In addition, attempting to shred a large envelope that has been folded to fit the slot will essentially jam the unit. As another reviewer posted, once the motor heats up to a certain temp, any jamming will effectively shut the motor off till it cools off. So I had to wait about 10 min before I could restart the shredder and reverse that envelope back out. If you plan to use it for light duty such as shredding a bill or letter right after you read it, this works great. If you tend to accumalate papers that need to be shredded and then do it all at once, you may be disappointed as it won't be able to keep up.Other specs - the capacity of the paper basket is about the size of your typical plastic grocery shopping bag. Noise from this unit is above average for this smaller sized unit. I've used larger ones that were quieter.

Unfortunately I bought this, thinking the negative reviews must be just unlucky consumers. Well, after a bit more than a month this thing stopped working completely. Nothing. No indicator lights come on. Just totally useless. Unfortunately Amazon is making me pay return shipping AND I might only get a partial refund. that sucks! First time I've ever had an issue w/ returns on items - did amazon change their policy? Anyway, this product should not be sold on any website it's so bad. I never even used more than 4 sheets! It couldn't handle any more than three.Update 9/27/11: Amazon was OK about returning this, but not perfect. They still deducted some money from the original price. But at least I was able to return this piece of junk.

On the face of it this Black&Decker crosscut shredder looks nicely promisingbut the actuality of it is somewhat disappointing.The unit is rated as a 6-sheet capability, but that is an idle boast. If one trys to shred 6 sheets at once the shredding is incomplete and many long stands of paper make it thru uncrosscut. That makes the security aspect of the crosscut function significantly less secure.Even when shredding only two sheets, one finds 1, 2 or more strands of paper pass thru uncrosscut.This is not a well functioning device.I don't recommend it. Not worth the ticket to ride....

The price is reasonable and It shredder the paper and credit card in a very fine pieces.But It does not handle 6 sheet well. It will either paper jam, or the motor get very hot. The overheat light come on when you keep shredding paper for more than a few minutes.The paper inflow "mouth" is very thin Narrow. I think it is designed for controlling number of paper inflow, however, it is not convince if you want to do it fast.But you cannot complain too much for this price.

This is great. Good for shredding right away. Don't wait too long to shred. Machine gets hot when you do a lot but works very well. Glad I got it.

I chose the rating of 'LIKE IT' because in addition to being almost a necessary office & home item these days, I like the manufacturer, Black & Decker. I have several shop tools made by them and they're some of the most reliable.It sits here next to my desk, handy to use. The size is ideal at just 5 inches deep, 12 inches wide, and 14 inches tall. It is easy to empty and does a good job cross-cutting all sheets. It even does things such as credit cards.I'd recommend this Black & Decker shredder to anyone who doesn't have a massive quantity of paper items to shred. And particularly from Amazon who is extremely timely in their deliveries.

I use this in my home office and it works fine. I previously had a smaller unit, but it could only handle a very few sheets at a time and soon burned out. This unit is BIG (which is why I took off a star,) but is powerful enough to handle 10 or 12 sheets of paper at a time. It's too tall to fit under my desk, and I wish there was a unit that had the same motor but was shorter (smaller trash receptacle.)If you only have a dozen or so sheets to shred per day, you should definitely buy a smaller unit. But for higher volume, this is a terrific shredder as long as you can find a place to put it.
