OS X 10.6 performance booster
As long as you are not looking for a gaming card, this card adds a nice performance boost for more than just graphics. The Nvidia CUDA libraries allow for using the GPU's for programs that are coded to run multithreaded. It really helps that OS X 10.6 more fully exploits multiprocessor environments and that the 4800 card adds 192 more processors. If you want to do 3-d displays on your mac pro, this is the only way to do that.If you are an using adobe cs4 you will see an obvious performance improvement. This card also works well in a multi-video card environment.

Good Value
I have used this video card as a cross platform and middle of the road video card for use with Macintosh OSX 10.5.8 to OSX 10.13.6 and Windows 7 Professional running on Bootcamp and Parallels 10.The Nvidia FX 4800 is listed by Apple as Mojave 10.14.6 compatible, IT IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH MOJAVE.It will BOOT IF MOJAVE IS PRE-INSTALLED but you will not have any resolution controls and the Dock will lose its Metal background. It will work in a pinch but will most likely not allow Mojave install. After more than 5 years of use, I have experienced no problems and performance (NON GAMING) has been very good. (review updated Dec 11 2019)A good average workstation video card for Mac.Customer service from Compeve was excellent. (Amazon WAS selling these cards from Compeve)My only complaint is.... this video card does NOT have a DisplayPort output. It is DVI ONLY. (works with both single link and dual link DVI monitors)KNOW THIS!Modern Mac computers use DisplayPort and or Thunderbolt monitors and this video card is NOT Compatible with those monitors. This video card is a very good value for Mac.... IF.... you have a DVI monitor.(you CANNOT convert DVI to DisplayPort with any adapter or cable.... conversion requires an Active converter.... search for DVI to DisplayPort converters)UPDATESI have now used this video card for over 5 years, daily. In that time I also tested the card with OSX 10.5.8 Leopard installed on a Nehalem Mac Pro.Nehalem Mac Pro are models 4,1 and 5,1 from 2009 to 2012,.... Leopard 10.5 Retail install discs Will NOT install on a Nehalem Mac Pro, they require a special install disc from Apple, this needs to be mentioned since my tests were not performed on a standard Leopard Retail install. This video works just fine from 10.5.8 to the latest updated version of High Sierra 10.13.6.The critically important part of using this video card is.... installing the correct Nvidia driver and CUDA.This may seem simple and direct but it is not.MAKE NOTE: the compatibility of DRIVER is dependent upon whether or not your OSX is updated.Specifically, this also includes Apple Security updates. The security update version WILL affect DRIVER version compatibility.BE CAREFUL TO NOTE.... CUDA 6.5.51 is the last compatible CUDA for this video card regardless of what modern OSX is installed.(CUDA 6.5.51 is used from OSX 10.8 to 10.13)LEOPARD 10.5.8DRIVER --- 18.5.2f16_quadro_mac_osxCUDA --- cudadriver-4.0.19-macosSNOW LEOPARD 10.6.8DRIVER --- Retail_256.02.25f101CUDA --- cudadriver-4.2.10-macosLION 10.7.5 (fully updated)DRIVER --- Retail-295.00.05f03-macosxCUDA --- cudadriver-5.5.47-macosMOUNTAIN LION 10.8.5 (fully updated)DRIVER --- WebDriver-313.01.04f06CUDA --- cudadriver-6.5.51-macosMAVERICKS 10.9.5 (fully updated)DRIVER --- WebDriver-334.01.03f11CUDA --- cudadriver-6.5.51-macosYOSEMITE 10.10.5 (fully updated)DRIVER --- WebDriver-346.02.03f14CUDA --- cudadriver-6.5.51-macosEl Capitan 10.11.6 (fully updated)DRIVER --- WebDriver-346.03.15f16CUDA --- cudadriver-6.5.51-macosSierra 10.12.6 (fully updated)DRIVER --- WebDriver-378.05.05.25f19CUDA --- cudadriver-6.5.51-macosHigh Sierra 10.13.6 (fully updated)DRIVER --- WebDriver-387.10.10.10.40.133 (soon to change in Dec 2019)CUDA --- cudadriver-6.5.51-macos

"Cuda Accelerator" feature absent in Mac OS 10.9
The main reason that I or anyone else would be interested in this product is its "Cuda Accelerator" feature which is noticeably absent in Mac's operation system 10.9.

Great for Adobe Premiere and After Effects Mercury Engine.
Took a chance and bought used and saved more than 50%. Works with Adobe Premiere Pro CC and is certified for Open GL with the Mercury Engine. Using for almost a year with no issues.

Works!
Works well in my Apple Mac Pro (Early 2008) with fairly minimal set-up. This works fine as a replacement for the very hot running Nvidia 8800 GT and may offer some performance advantages. It definitely runs cooler and features industrial/workstation build quality. It did take some trial and error to figure out which CUDA driver download was compatible... and one that was recognizable as a CUDA device in Adobe CC Apps like After Effects. From my experience, I found that the CUDA driver version 6.0.37 works (see pic). This may depend on your operating system. I'm running El Capitan 10.11.6 but may try to see how/if it runs on later versions with patches on a different OS startup disk.I was hoping this device came with two DVI ports as pictured on the Amazon listing. When it arrived I was slightly disappointed to see only one DVI port. Apparently there is a 'MAC' version that comes with 2 DVI ports. I thought I had a received a PC version of the card...(maybe it is) but it works fine in my machine, just no boot screen. In any case, I set up one screen with the DVI connection and an additional screen using one of the two DisplayPort connections and a Display Port to female DVI adaptor by BENFEI, which I purchased here on Amazon. I did experience some screen glitches the other day on the Display port/DVI monitor. Not sure of this was a connection error within the GPU or possibly line/EMF interference from the power cable to the Mac itself. A reboot and some wire management seemed to solve the issue.Lastly... I was not initially happy with the shipping process from the seller, but they cleared up the confusion promptly and I received the item sooner than I expected, after some delays. They were also helpful in addressing follow up questions about the GPU and where it came from.
