Old, but not outdated!
I bought this game in April of 2011 and have played it often throughout the years. At release, the graphics were on par with the graphics of the games out at the time but today the game is still enjoyable by all means! A true RTS that could bring thousands of hours of value. The depth of the playability is similar to the top games of the time such as Star Craft and Warcraft 3 but is slightly limited to the world of Lord of the rings content. There are many units and heroes to choose from that allow for a wide span of strategies. Like any other game this is best to play with friends or online! The multiplayer is great and the unique hero combinations can be really fun. This game will give you the nostalgia of both lord of the rings atmosphere but also in my opinion the peak of RTS Gameplay.I hope they take another look like they have with other series to bring this game into a new rendition because that would be something truly fantastic. Until then, I am more than happy to enjoy what is available.

how to get it to work in Windows 7
Plenty of people here reviewing the game, I just wanted to tell everyone how to make it work on newer computers. This trick works for LOTR BFME I and Rise of the Witch King as well. This trick works on Windows 7 and probably works for Vista too, just never tried it. I seriously doubt you will have problems with XP machines.Basically, the main problem is screen resolution: today's computers are normally configured for resolutions above(or different from) 1024 x 768, such as 1920 x1080 and other HD configurations. Some older games weren't programmed for the big screens of today.A little html background is required to do this, but it shouldn't be too hard for beginners(I am one myself). You are essentially doing three things: you are creating a new text file ".txt", then converting that file to a ".ini" file, and then dropping that file into the LOTR BFME II roaming file. The original, detailed instructions for this fix can be found here, [...] ,a Windows 7 forum, but I wanted to post this because it is sometimes hard to know where to start.1. Use Notepad to create this text file(use the same margins and paragraph spacing as this, although I'm not sure it matters, but with computers, precision is usually important):AudioLOD = HighHasSeenLogoMovies = yesIdealStaticGameLOD = HighResolution = 1024 768SaticGame LOD = HighTimesInGame = 51a. Save the text file as "Options.txt" to your Desktop or somewhere easy to remember.2. Make sure you have the "Hide extensions for known file types" box unchecked in Control Panel -> Folder Options3. Browse to your newly created text file and right click on it. Then change the filename to "options.ini"(the right-click menu selection: "Rename"). You will know you did it right when you see a dialog box saying something like: "Are you sure you want to change the file extention?", click "yes" for this.4. Copy this file (highlight and then CTRL + C) and then browse to this folder "C:\Users\[your login name]\AppData\Roaming\My Battle for Middle-earth(tm)Files folder".5. This folder should be empty. Paste your new .ini file(Press CTRL + V) into the folder. If you did it right, the file should appear as: "Options.ini" in the folder.6. The game should work fine after this.Again, this is just a dumbing down of the process described on the forum. I had some trouble figuring it out and thought it might help other technically challenged people like myself to present it a little clearer. :)Also, love the game!

The only lord of the rings game
Unfortunately because it is only for PC the game due to compatabality issues has died on me twice. My discs no longer work. I keep on buying all of the battle for middle earth games because no one will make a new one to replace them. I love these games because there are alot of poorly done lord of the rings game, if you dont mind an RTS style game this is the game for tolkien fans. In no other game can you see alot of middle earth especially maps not in the films. Also you can recreate epic battles from the movies or from the books. The games campaign is long if you add them all up. Online play can be fun, the only thing that keeps me from saying its perfect is the fact that in the ausome war of the ring mode, unfortunately no matter what you do the enemy seems to always favor attacking your home base on the first turn. Besides some minor goofy things like the tower guard being guardians of the white tree (tower guard wouldnt be used anyway) the game is very good. If you have a decent PC the game looks great.

Won't install any game
Bought this last year, hoping that I could play it on my new computer with Windows 10. Turns out the only thing that will run on it is the manuals. The external disc reader doesn't even acknowledge the disc is even inserted. I tried it with other games that require discs and those worked just fine. These discs are faulty and I wish I had known that.
