Keto - made delicious
Oh my gosh! What a fantastic cookbook! What a way to cook KETO in a sophisticated culinary way. It takes KETO way off the typical cheesy, typical recipes into a culinary world any “foody” can appreciate. The recipes are definitely approachable however, completely elevated. Most of the recipes have beautiful pictures, for reference. And if there is an unusual ingredient the narrative explains what it is. Also, if there is an unusual ingredient that you may not be familiar with, it explains what to do with it, think beef liver. I’m so excited to incorporate these recipes into my life and make eating appetizing again.

Recipes for pure keto enjoyment (srsly great salmon and short rib recipes in this book)
I've been living a mostly low-carb life for a long time, but holidays and travel often conspire to throw me off course. This is one of the books I turned to to get me back on the right track. Suzanne Ryan's "Simply Keto" is another.I like Mark Sisson's short but sweet reminders at the beginning of this book (it follows his more detailed and explanatory book "The Keto Reset Diet"), but the recipes are the real draw.So far, my absolute favorite recipe is "Braised Short Ribs with Cauliflower Mash." It is so delicious and gorgeous on the plate. The sauce was like silk. I attached a photo of it.UPDATE: Ok, well, now maybe the "Pan-Seared Salmon with Quick Hollandaise and Crispy Capers" is my favorite. It is honestly the best salmon, out of countless times I've made salmon, I've ever made, even without the Hollandaise. It uses a technique for salmon that I've never seen before... at least not exactly, and wow was it good. My husband flipped over it as well. The Hollandaise was indeed quick enough to be made within the short cooking time of the salmon - I did not use the Cajun seasoning, but added additional lemon juice and a drop of hot sauce. It was an amazingly delicious dish.Others that we really loved were:++ Creme Fraiche Spatchcocked Chicken with Creamy Brussels Sprouts - I mean, really, the title alone! This is a recipe inspired by Mimi Thorisson, so I was expecting a lot and we definitely got it!++ Grilled Romaine Salad with Anchovies - I could eat this every night. It's also great with chicken breasts in place of the anchovies.++ Creamy Za'atar Slaw. A very good, new take on red cabbage slaw. The only dud for me was the Key Lime Pistachio Mug Cake (pictured). It was super quick and easy to make, but was much too eggy for me. I did not have any pistachios on hand, but since they are basically a topping I don't think the lack of them had any impact on the edginess of the batter. I think some tweaking with additional almond flour, or even coconut flour might make this more to my liking.I'll be making many more of the recipes from this book for sure (the Butter Chicken recipe looks a-mazing!). Macronutrient and calorie data is provided with each recipe.

More Recipes
Most used is vegetable dishes, strange for Keto Cookbook. I guess it depends on your tastes. Not an easy Index to use. Recipes are hard to find.

Great book to get you started on a Keto diet
I tried Keto on my own and failed miserably eating way too much everything! Fat, protein and calories! I had the keto flu AND didn't lose any weight. I was about to walk away from it until I did a little more searching and found that the author of this book really was one of the pioneers of the keto lifestyle. He also launched Primal Kitchen which is a great source of keto sauces and condiments (the one area that it's so easy to fail at keto bc of bad oils and sugars in the ingredients). So I bought this cookbook, a kitchen scale and several Primal Kitchen products along with the basics you need and so far after 2 weeks it's been successful! This book will give you a good idea of not only what you can make but really proportions. You're really not eating a lot if you are serious about losing weight but the good fat you're eating helps to satiate you and get you into ketosis. Some recipes you won't like but there's enough here to satisfy anyone. If you read nothing else on keto this book will cover all the basics before getting into the recipes. It's a winner!

Whole Food based mostly simple recipes
I love the look and feel of this book. The layouts are nice, the macros printed with each recipe is much appreciated, and the fact that it focuses on real food creates a healthful way to go keto.I am so confused by one of the reviews saying this book uses metrics. My copy uses tablespoons and cups and the like. I’m also confused by the complaint that there are too many ingredients. Most recipes have about 8 items and most of those are things like olive, oil, salt, pepper. There are some more elaborate recipes that include a sauce but those are the exception rather than the norm. I almost didn’t buy this book due to that review. I am glad I went ahead and took a chance. Because I like it. And since I’ve been attempting to be primal for two years now most of the items in the recipes are my staples: coconut milk, eggs, pastures meats, cheeses, vegetables, avocado oil, etc Aside from from jicama (which I love—had in a restaurant in another town) and daikon (these two are nowhere to be found in my local stores), the I ingredients are easy to find and what would would expect in a primal cookbook.

Missed the mark
I love Mark Sission, he’s easy going and truly gets you. I own several of his books. But this last one was a serious disappointment.I follow a Keto lifestyle and many of these recipes are out for me as far as macros are concerned. Plus I didn’t care for many of them. There were too many ingredients, plus they were all listed in metric which I hate! When I’m cooking I don’t want to spend time converting measurements. The least they could have done is have both them listed both ways. Plus the simpler the better in my book. This was definitely not his best work. But we all miss the mark once and awhile as he did with this book.
