Quality of binding/packing
Unfortunately I did not check in the first instance the quality of binding. I gifted my mom this book and this is what she had to show me ( see the photo attached). Even before opening to read the book if a bunch of papers is so loosely bound or tied up, imagine the quality of book preparation. Kindly convey this to Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan. The content of the book is amazing and mind boggling, no doubts. I had always held Rajaji in high esteem for the command on English language that he had and the uninterrupted flow of the story.

The perfect, concise version of the Epic
This is just the book I was looking for. I have heard a number of sub-stories in Mahabharat. The only thing I needed was putting it all together, in a simple, regular story book - like way. This book does just that.Note: This is not a verse by verse translation. It does not include a single verse. It narrates the story, the way one person narrates to another.C. Rajagopalachari, the learned man that he was, has done a commendable job in putting this complex epic in a story for beginners. For those who know only the gist of Mahabharat and want to know many more details of each character, this book is a good start. It contains a lot of anecdotes, a lot many sub-stories / incidents, that the reader might be unaware of.Also, there is no Bhagvad Gita or its explanation in the narration. So if you are looking for the Hindu philosophy as preached by Krishna to Arjuna, you will not find it in this book. For this he has written another book: Bhagavad Gita (A handbook for Students) .My rating is for the way of story telling, the incidents / anecdotes chosen and paper and book quality. I, by no means, am worthy or capable of giving a rating to the epic Mahabharat itself.Overall, a great book for those who are looking at a overall story of the epic in simple language.Highly recommended.

Good starting point!
It's a good starting point if you wanna read mahabharata but i wouldn't say you would get the complete story just by reading this. Many stories and events are completely skipped or just given a reference. You should read this if you wanna read a summary to see if you can read it in full like kmg or bori version. Many of the myths will also be shattered propagated by tv serials by reading this alone but as i said it's not enough to just read this as there are some deviations from bori.

Captivating read
This book, Mahabharata by Rajagopalachari, is very indulging and captures the reader's interest throughout the entire story.I, personally found the language very simple, yet at the same time the thoughts expressed have a sophisticated aura. Written very simply, it gives details about most of the events of importance, only excluding a few. However one thing I feel is that, in most of the chapters the writer gives the summary of the end, even before the start of the story, which to me, is kind of a suspense-killer. Apart from that, it is an excellent read for someone who wants to get acquainted with the Mahabharata epic in a brief way.
