Works great for locking new dreads.. No flake or residue and can even be applied after a no-poo (water wash w/o shampoo between washing days) without feeling loaded down. Smells great for a guy or girl. Just palm roll it in after you get out of the shower, lightly dry, and you're on your way. Best daily maintenance product I have found / especially for the price.

Lightweight with no residue! Smells fantastic, sweetness of mango with freshness of lime. I used it for braiding in dreadlock extensions. Made the entire process way easier and faster.

I've seen a lot of 1-2 star reviews and can honestly say this gel isn't for everyone. The first time I had dreads back in 2014, it took forever to get them to lock. The salons would use this awful brown gel as well as beeswax, and they would still to unravel after a few days (even with having my hair wrapped). Being as though this was my "loc journey", I started doing the maintenance myself; that's when I came across Jamaican Mango & Lime locking gel. I can say from experience, that the effectiveness of this gel depends solely on the technique you use. If you are twisting and not clipping the dread at the root and bottom of your hair as soon as you're done, it'll start to unravel. If you use the palm roll technique then you only have to clip the root (I still clipped the bottom); I used a blow dryer after using both of these techniques and never had an issue with hold. I played basketball, football, and trained in the heat, so washed my hair more often than most (my preference) and didn't have issues with locking/hold. I cut my dreads in Spring 2017 (long story, but I will say not every salon that claims to "specialize in dreads/locs/dreadlocks" are specialists; be careful.), and in May 2018 decided to start the loc process all over again. This time around, I used the backcombing method with a palm roll (I just ordered crochet hooks to see how that works) and they locked right away. I'm definitely a fan of this product based on my personal results. Again, not everyone has the same hair type, so therefore you won't have the same results. I'd also like to add that I was never "lucky" enough to go through the "ugly dread stage" so that could also be part of the reason I've had success with this product.

I ordered this once before last year and had no problems as I ordered multiple things at a time. Meaning that the item was not by itself in its own box. Fast forward to now when i ordered it by itself, either the box was too big for the container or the lid was not on properly as it spilled everywhere and half of the product was gone. Still a really good product but knowing how boxes can be tossed around, the packaging should have been way better around the item or the lid should have been double checked. Not something i stressed over as the money isn’t an issue, just a review for the merchandiser to consider for future purchases.

Smells amazing, works gradually and gives good texture used to lock straight hair. Used the crochet method, wished we would have started using it earlier in the locking process.Can't get over how good it smells.

I used this to put locs in my son’s hair. It smells good, does not create build-up or a waxy residue, and works well. He adds more sometimes to maintain his locs as well.

I've been using this for a few years now to retwist my locks. I like it because it's very light weight and leaves my hair soft. There is no hard hold or build up like regular gel or beeswax which works for me because I don't like crunchy locs.
