Works Great! Saves Money!
Hello Everyone, I write very few reviews. I read a lot of reviews on products so it is only right for me to return the favor of so many others.I've used triple/quadruple blades for decades now. I used disposable razors for awhile but for the past 15+ years I've used one that vibrates. Not sure if the "vibration" helped give a closer shave or not but sometimes I fall for marketing hype.I most likely would have continued using these razors for the rest of my life except one thing that has bothered me for years. These things Rarely go on sale! It feels like the manufactures have a Gentlemens Agreement to keep prices high. Understand, I was only spending appx. $4.00 a week (not including shaving cream cost) so it is not super expensive. I just feel like they are making a killing in profits off these disposable razors/blades. I want companies to be profitable but don't like it if I feel like they are "gouging" people. Hence my quest for an alternative...My beard is coarse/extra coarse and electric razors (I've tried several) do not work well on me.I also thought about a Straight Razor. I'm An Old School kind of guy so this appealed to me. I like learning a skill. After doing research (I throughly research most everything so I minimize mistakes) the straight razor took too much time. The lathering process alone, not including sometimes shave multiple times to get a very close shave, takes quite a bit of time. When I shave in the morning my time goal is 4 minutes total from start to finish. My quest led me to double edge razors. I remember my grandfather used one way back in the day. Upon researching I found razors that ranged from ultra cheap to expensive. I do not like "trying out" a mid line razor only to trade up quickly thereafter. I don't mind a high initial price but I hate to waste money on a razor I'll never use again. After reading and re-reading many posts for several days/weeks I decided on the Jatai Feather. I wanted the absolute best (within reason) quality razor and also the sharpest blades available. I initially looked at separate razor stands, animal hair (beaver?) and other high end brushes, the best rated soaps, bowls, etc..I watched many YouTube videos on how to properly shave. The one thing that I was discouraged about was the extra time involved in shaving. I didn't want to make it an "Event", I just wanted a pretty close shave, quickly. I'm not judging anyone that enjoys shaving and takes all the time, to each his own, but it was just something I just wasn't interested in.I had almost given up until I read a review that talked about "kiss my face" lotion. Women use this stuff for shaving their legs so I felt confident it would work on my face. I finally took the plunge and ordered a Feather Razor, 100 Feather Blades and 4 each of Kiss My Face lotion. My total order was appx $240 to $250. I know this sounds like a lot and it is. It is a large investment for just shaving. However, I calculated $4 a week and it would take around 15 months to break even. After paid back,it becomes Much Less Expensive! I'm still on my first container of Kiss My Face and I change out blades once a week (I could most likely get a couple of weeks off one blade but I like a sharp blade. Dull blades DRAG across your face. Not Fun.) so I'm not sure how long it will last but only needing one good squirt a day and it is almost 2 1/2 months since I started using it daily. You have to lather it up on your face and neck a little but it makes the razor glide across your skin smoothly.I calculate I will be able to shave for 30 cents a week. I can also get at least as good a shave as with a disposable.Honestly, I was intimidated the first few times I used it. I was afraid of cutting myself. There is a learning curve. Initially I had small cuts on all the high spots (small bumps) on my lower neck. I had to use after shave and toilet tissue dabs to stop the bleeding. It didn't really hurt but it was discouraging a little bit. After thinking about it, I was "over shaving". I was going over and over again in the same place trying to get a super close shave. After altering my technique a little, I hardly ever nick myself anymore. I had to remember how much sharper my new blade is. I technique I now use is almost identical to how I shaved with disposables except with a little less pressure against my face.I have not timed myself to the second but it takes me about 3 minutes from start to finish. Hot water wet face to warm water wet face.I'm very pleased with the results. The new shaver obviously feels different in my hand but it is a good feeling. Like handing a quality built item.I have no doubt this shaver will last a lifetime.I see that the price of this shaver has increased significantly but that only means a few more months to "pay it off" with your savings.Think about it. After you recoup your initial investment, you save At Least $3.50 a week.Do the math. $180+ a year. That would come in handy at Christmastime.Hope this helps someone.Blessings, Brian

Top notch quality, very mild and comfortable
Starting with the box, it should fit in most medium sized toiletry bags, at 5-3/8" W x 5" D x 1-1/2" H. Wrapped around is card stock paper while the box itself is made of cardboard of glossy finish. Inside, you will find the pamphlet with your uniquely printed serial number on the front, containing the documentation and instructions. The foam insert is very dense and precisely cut to provide a very snug fit for the assembled razor, the stand and the razor supply box.Moving onto the stand, it a solid, heavy piece of machined stainless steel. The finish is brushed and the Feather® JAPAN branding appears to be laser etched and not painted on. Inside the box you will also find a rubber ring with an adhesive on one side for adhering it to the base of the stand. When the razor is placed inside the stand, the is minimal tolerance to provide a snug fit and minimal wobble. This 3 piece razor is comprised of all stainless steel. The finish for all the pieces is consistent, with a nickel chrome plated finish. Assembled, the razor measures 3-3/4" in length, 1-3/4" in width, with the base just over one inch. The handle has a diamond-knurled grip, with 3 grooves equally spaced on both ends of the handle. Looking inside of the top of the handle, we can see the threaded wall, where the stainless steel is not nickel chrome plated (however the razor cap is, more on that in next section).Looking at the razor cap, the profile is very slim and consists of squares in each corner that aid in seating the blade. The screw takes on the same nickel chrome plating found on the rest of the piece, unlike the interior threading of the handle. As we examine the underside of the base, we can see a number 1 imprinted which explains the mild experience you get with this razor. The four grooves in each corner compliment the same 4 notches found on the razor cap so that they precisely fit together. It really is a fine piece of art.As for my experience shaving with this razor, it's safe to say it's worth every penny. I have sensitive skin and have always avoided wet shaving because of just that. During my first time wet shaving in a while, with this razor I got two nicks. I experienced a very comfortable shave and experienced minimal pulling near the mustache area in comparison to a cheap safety razor that was more aggressive paired with cheap blades. When you pair a very mild razor with Feather's renowned extremely sharp blades, I can begin to see how it is in another realm of its own.The steep price tag quickly becomes irrelevant when, given you properly care for it, should last a lifetime. I would recommend this to someone who appreciates craftsmanship and quality, and expects to never replace their safety razor.

Well made DE razor. Get the stand now.
I purchased this razor without the stand and I looked everywhere trying to find it. You must buy the razor together with the stand or you're out of luck. This is a well made razor and shaves nicely. If you're a DE shaver, this is a great razor to have in your collection.I say collection because half the fun of DE shaving is owning different razors and trying different blades.Go ahead and buy this razor with confidence.

The best shave you'll ever have
A bit expensive but, I wished I had bought this long ago. Although I occasionally use my Dovo Straight, I'm coming from my everyday Edwin Jagger DE89 (an excellent razor for the money) so this was a step up. On the skin, it feels like you are sliding a stick of butter across your face and, somehow, no whiskers are left behind. I agree with other reviewers regarding the angle. There is a limited range to the degrees you need to stay within for an effective shave. That being said, the best feedback you can rely on is the sound. An incorrect angle and a correct angle feels pretty much the same on your face, smooth, smooth, smooth. So, keep the ambient noise to a minimum and listen for the blade cutting the whiskers.
