HOURS & HOURS OF FUN!!!
My 3 1/2 year old grandson and I were looking for something to do and found our old box of Tinkertoys on the shelf in the closet. We had soooo much fun! After we got done making things, we broke everything and he started all over again by himself -- making all sorts of gadgets and gizmos. Now, every time he visits he wants to get the Tinkertoys out. The only problem is keeping his younger brother occupied with something else because Tinkertoys are definitely for "big kids", 3 1/2 and up.I purchased this Classic Jumbo Set for an older grandson a couple of years ago and I will be buying another set again later this year. It is a great set with enough pieces for one child to have a great time.Tinkertoys are great! They let kids use their imagination and they can become so many different things depending on the child's interests. I played with Tinkertoys, my kids played with Tinkertoys, and now my grandkids enjoy them. Everyone should own a set of Tinkertoys.

Tinkertoys and Lincoln Logs and Erector sets!
*sigh* Why is it that some of the best toys get 'aged' out of availability, to make way for the Cult of the New(tm)?I had a set of Tinkertoys in 1967 when I was 4. They were one of my primary toys (along with my Lincoln Logs and Erector Set -- from the 40's, inherited from my Dad!).Sadly, my Tinkertoys didn't survive my younger brother, and my mom's eventual household purge. :DSo of course, when my own son was old enough, I tracked down all of the above to ensure that he'd have the same mind-building and creativity-enhancing oppurtunities!I bought this set of Tinkertoys in late 2005, when my son was three. He's 10 now, and doesn't play with them as much as he used to. But I can happily say that this set was the real deal. Very few changes from the version I recall playing with in the 60s. My son played with these for years. And the 2005 edition of the product was just as tough and flexible as I remembered. Good stuff. Our kids could do with a lot less electronic baloney and 'guided learning', and more of this type of working with their hands, and free-form creation-making! :)

Not you father's tinker toys
I bought this for my 4-1/2 year old grandson. To watch his mind work to make things is very satisfying. To see him easily break pieces that did not break in my era is disconcerting. I see it as material and/or quality control. I think of buying another set to complement the first, but am reluctant.

My grandson loved this!
My 5 yr. old grandson loved this set so much that I had to go out and get him more pieces so he could make more things. I knew he loved his Legos and wasn't sure he would like this set since the pieces are pretty simplistic. But he's a very, imaginative creative kid. He called me up after getting the set and proudly told me he had made a huge airplane with his tinkertoys and that it was a lot of work!

Classic Tinker Toys
I thought the product was over priced, however I was most disappointed that some of the wood pieces were split.

A Great Educational Toy Returns!
I can't tell just how glad I am to see this great toy return to the market. Some years ago I tried a web search, unsuccessfully, to find TinkerToys. However my probe did turn up lots of pages of comments by engineers, scientists and other professionals who fondly remembered hours of fun and learning with TinkerToys in their early years.I remember such fun times as well and I agree that the toy is a great primer to a technology oriented profession (I am an engineer also). My daughters are still under age 3 but I am taking no chances and I am ordering a set now to save for next Christmas when one will be old enough. (Excited? Yes. My wife can't believe my excitement either, especially at 4:00 AM doing the Christmas 2000 e-shopping. But she never had the good fortune to have grown up with the toy. It's like finding a long lost friend.)Thanks a million for bringing TinkerToys back. I look forward to hours of fun with my kids while playing with it.

Fun Toy ...Horrible Quality
I had Tinker Toys are a kid and they were awesome. I bought some for my kiddo for Christmas and what a disappointment! Six pieces broke the first day! The wood is soft and cracks very easily. Additionally, the holes in the spools are inconsitently drilled so some of the sticks either don't fit or slide right through. I wish I still had my old quality American Made Tinker Toys for my daughter to play with. Don't waste your money on the new Made in China version. They'll break right out of the box.

Great use
Bought this back in 2004 and the kids are still playing with it. Great use of my money. A gift to a family that'll last generations.
