A pretty handy tool for checking moisture levels in various materials around the house. I love that it has multiple modes for different surfaces like wood, walls, and masonry - really versatile for the DIY tasks I've been tackling. The large display makes readings super clear and the light is great for working in dimly lit areas. I also appreciate the non-invasive design which doesn’t damage the surfaces I'm testing, unlike the pin hole versions that are available, which is a big plus. One downside, though, is that it only detects moisture up to 19mm deep, which might not be sufficient for thicker materials. Still, for most home projects, it’s been reliable and convenient to use. Looked a nice piece of kit but only worked for a couple of minutes before switching itself off. Would not switch back on again. Went out and bought a new battery costing £5 (the rectangular cube battery used in smoke detectors) put the new battery in but it would still not switch on. Returned to Amazon.Bought a second one and it's working just fine. Has three measures, audio beep when damp, a scale of dry to wet and a percentage readout. Pleased with this second meter and changed my review from one star to four stars.

Came with a small pouch with I didn't expect. It is the first time using one of these but it was very simple and after trying in a few places I found it to be accurate, numbers easy to read and pretty clear when moisture is detected . I actually tried it in a place where is suspected dampness and it confirmed it enough for me to fix a small leak. Very happy and great value.

Needed to check out a damp issue. Also Tested it compared to a much more expensive monitor, seems to get similar results.

We decided to apply a special coating on our external walls, but I wanted to know which wall to start. Basically, which wall was the worst. And it is where this tools comes for. It works great, and you'll get a few surprises, like I did. The wall I thought was the worst, ended up but the least...

Unfortunately the item did not work . I tried a new battery thinking that the one supplied could be flat .But still no response from the unit.I have returned to Amazon awaiting credit. And will purchase another make .

Great tool and easy read

This reader came as pictured, with a 9V battery. It also had a fabric storage case, which is not included in the pictures.As far as using it, it really is as simple as putting it on the mode for the type of material you are checking (wall, masonry, softwood, hardwood) then holding it up against the material. The display is in colour and is in a large, easy to read font. The reading is essentially instantaneous, The meter gives a scale which changes colour depending upon how moist the material is. There is also a handy reference table on the back to check the reading against.I did a test by putting it up against a material type then flipped through the different material modes. The reading changed based on the material it thought it was reading.I will admit, I don't have any specialized tools to confirm if the readings are accurate. However, when I use it against older vs. newer wood, it does show the newer wood has a higher moisture content as I would expect. So for me, I don't need to know the exact moisture content, I just need to know if it's dry and/or drying out more.I'm a home DIYer, so I can't speak to how this would hold up to professional grade usage. However for me, it does exactly what I expect it to do. I like the ease of use and the versatility to check multiple different types of material. Found no reason to deduct any stars.
