Not effective at all
Certainly! Here’s a polished and professional version of your review:---I recently purchased and calibrated the device as recommended, using filtered water. However, when I proceeded to test various water sources—including tap water, mineral water, and even dirty water—the device consistently displayed results indicating that each water source was "excellent." This outcome seems nonsensical and raises serious concerns about the device's accuracy and reliability.Overall, I am disappointed with the performance and would advise potential buyers to consider these issues before making a purchase.-

Excellent and Portable Water Quality Tester
The water quality tester is well made, light, compact and portable, I have been wondering for a while regarding my tap water and is it suitable enough to drink, using this tester has reassured me slightly regarding the quality of it, I am not a water wizard or anything and so I will have to research and look a little further into the readings and what they mean, but for now a reading of 86 = “Good” is a good place to start. The water tester is mainly used for testing drinking water such as tap, purified and ground water, it uses UV absorption to measure COD (Oxygen Consumption), TOC (Total Organic Carbon), TDS (Total Dissolved Solids), EC (Electrical Conductivity), UV275 (Ultraviolet Absorption value) and T for Temperature. It has to be calibrated using purified water, this is easy to do following the instructions provided, the device is easy to use by firstly installing 2 x AAA batteries into the top by removing the battery slider, powering on the device (you will have a message to calibrate within a week of first use), remove the bottom cap to reveal the “busy end”, place in water within the marked area and press the M button to measure the water quality, it takes a second to read so you do not have to keep it in the water for long, the screen is clear to read and it gives a colour coded display regarding the quality of the water, Blue = Excellent, Green = Good, Yellow = Average and Red = Poor.Overall, I like this device so much that it will be carried around in my backpack and taken with me away on holidays, a decent way to check the water quality before you drink, my highest reading is 94 so far for a popular Scottish natural mineral water, it is good to see the variations of readings between the waters I have tested, I may switch to drinking bottled water from now on! Thank you.

So useful for camping, but has domestic uses too.
I have calibrated this as instructed using the what can only be described as tiny formatted instructions. You need to use purified or distilled water. I had some distilled water lying around which I knew was in good order. But that was luck on my part and if I didn't own any. I would have to had purchase it. I am wholeheartedly against making purchased for items that I believe should be included. Even a small plastic bottle of water included in the purchase would have been decent. The instructions are written by a non-English speaker it seems and then translated and do not illustrate exactly how to calibrate. But it is simple. Essentially, dip it in a known good source of water and then press the M button. It will tell you clearly that the water source is a good one and use this as a base from then onwards. After calibrating it is just so easy to use.It is an interesting thing to have handy and it does give you a good insight into what you are drinking when you go to peoples houses or go camping etc. I recently used this in Cyprus and tested water from the hotel i stayed in, the pool water, drinks and other things. Most of it was safe to drink but results did vary.I will be taking this camping with me and using it with fresh water to see if i can drink it. This will also confirm if my water purification tablets are working as they should. Great peace of mind. Its a good item. But it has its flaws. Overall im giving it a 3* rating. It should come with water to calibrate and it should be cheaper.

Handy for testing water
Getting started wasn’t as easy as it should have been mainly due to the lack of instructions on how to insert the batteries (not supplied), the top of the device has a prize-off cover, and was so tight I was afraid I was going to break it prizing it off, but I didn’t, and 2 x triple AAA batteries later I was in business. Well almost, on first use the device has to be calibrated - the process is easy - you just dip the probes in water and activate the menu, but it does require purified water to do this, not mineral water, not boiled tap water - it needs to be far more pure than that. You can buy some for Amazon, but it would have been nice if this was included with the product to get you started.I didn’t have any so I bought some from a chemist, and after that usage was simple and luckily my tap water is safe to drink. I can see this being very useful when I travel to foreign counties or go hiking, as it’s small, compact and lightweight. It does seem fairly expensive, but for peace of mind it’s worth it.

How good is the water I drink?
I suppose I took it for granted that bottled water was as good as you can get and the water flowing from your tap can be safely drunk.I had always wondered if my thoughts about water were correct. When this product was available I ordered it to allow be peace of mind about my water drinking addiction. The one important thing that this unit requires initial calibration which kind of makes sense. You have to find purified water. You cannot use tap or mineral water. If you want accurate water quality readings then be prepared to keep calibrating this on a regular basis. For me, I do feel comfortable to be able to test the water before drinking and this can be especially useful when you are away from home. With this machine you are assuming it is able to read what it needs to be able to show you the quality of water you are testing. It is a bit like thermometer you can buy and if you can assume it is accurate but I think this is what the calibration step does.
