M-class filtration seems to work great compared to cheaper uncertified units
Works very well, M-class filtration seems to work great compared to cheaper uncertified units, no dust or odours in the air when using it. Variable speed control is useful and keeps noise down when you don't need full power. When you do need full power, this has plenty of it (in fact, using it as a vacuum cleaner it will lift fitted carpets from the floor!). The bags are expensive, but you can use it without. For the price paid (less than £300 on special) it's very good value too! At full list price though, I think they should include more fittings, accessories and bags (only one included).

Pretty good all round sooker
I bought this extractor to use when working in folks houses to keep the stour (dust) down so having lived with the thing for a few months here are my thoughts...I had no experience of extractors previously so wasn't really sure what to expect, but based on various reviews and feedback I went with the Makita. I feel that the price is pretty steep for the machine ( I paid £399) although it is a bit cheaper than other makes I looked at (Bosch, Festool) so the fact that it is (so far as I am aware) usable on sites I presume this is where the additional cost is incurred (ie added on by manufacturer!). Anyway paypal gave me option of pay in 5 instalments so I took the plunge. Its quite big physically but is pretty light - easy to move around on its wheels but for me its not too big. Not quite too big anyway. I know its more of a workshop tool but taking it to job-sites is what I bought it for and in a nutshell it serves that purpose well. The hose and mains lead are good lengths. I can sand up at ceiling height without any difficulty and the mains lead is long enough to have the extractor follow you around without pulling at the socket.Function wise i like it: the take off power is a godsend I use it all the time and the socket on the Makita is powerful enough (just) to run my chop saw off of so thumbs up there. There isn't a lot to add functionally other than the on off switch goes 2 ways one way to act as a normal hoover and the other which is activated by the built in outlet.I use it mostly with my Makita plunge saw or with various sanders and I have to say I am thoroughly impressed. There is virtually no dust spread when sanding when using discs with the appropriate holes for my sander and when cutting MDF there is only the slightest amount of dust produced. I can't believe how clean I can work now so high (not quite top) marks for that. It isn't the quietest machine when running but when my sander is on I have to check that the extractor is running too as the sander drowns out the makita so make of that what you will.I can't really fault the operation of the extractor for my purposes and as of yet there isn't really anything I dont like about it, However...The picture on the box of the machine shows it with a long hoover attachment...which isn't supplied! It comes with a narrow nozzle and 2 rubbery couplers that fit onto the end of the hose...that's it. I took the cue from another reviewer here and bought the generic Henry attachments set for £20 and this works OK although to make the steel pipe attachment fit I had to wrap a load of gaffa tape round it (like about 5mm thick all round) works like a charm but still... I also bought the cheap multiple sized connector set (about £7) some of which fit the nozzles some of which don't. Again why Makita don't include a selection of reducers etc is beyond me. I suppose they think I might buy further ones from them but I will absolutely not do this as they are extortionate. I buy cheapo generic ones and hope I get a decent fit for what ever tool I'm using or I'll make my own (plenty of vids on youtube). For those that have one, one of the supplied connectors fits the SP6000 perfectly, as you would expectI cant believe that Makita don't supply any but the most basic fittings on a unit that is so expensive, its a bit of a cheek if you ask me, and while we're at it, getting only one fabric bag (for dry stuff) and one plastic bag (wet) is similarly miserable. I am a self employed builder and having to spend extra on bags and fittings on top of the price of the unit sticks in my craw a bit.All that said, n general I am really pretty happy with it: the suction is good - not quite as powerful as my Henry on full bung but I don't think it's too far away, and the hose is wider. For transport the hose and mains cable wrap round the body and mostly stay put when I'm chucking it into the van.So aside for Makita being stingy regarding accessories and bags I think this is a good bet - although I don't have anything to compare it to - but as I say I'm pleased that I bought it despite the cost. I would add that if the nice people at Makita read this, I would happily accept a comprehensive range of accessories and I would urge them to supply them with this unit, even if the price has to rise - A LITTLE!

Great when attached to a power tool
Its a very well priced M class dust extractor and does well at that, but it seems its UK marketing was all a bit of an after thought. you know if you buy this in New Zealand or Oz you get the complete accessory kit, but in the UK you just get some adaptors, the hose and a spout. Not the bend tube, tube extension or floor attachment or other heads. However, I found a cheap henry accessory replacement kit will join and at £15 its a lot cheaper than the Makita parts, £45 for the bended metal, £45 for the tube extension and something similar for the floor part, although I don't think the henry spares are stainless, so not for water, but £15 is much better than £135.Then there are the bags, it comes with the fleece and the plastic bin liner, which is all it is, a liner for the bottom section to try and keep it clean and make emptying easier. But no mention of the paper bags, and completely contradictory information held within Makita's own industry dust advice publication (called Solutions Dust Delivering Safety), which states plastic is for mineral dust and fleece is for wood. But paper is for either and paper is the one they dont supply with this machine or even seem to mention in the machines own manual. The manual says that plastic or fleece is suitable for either mineral or wood. The manual itself a heavy weight book containing 3 sides of English which fails to even mention what the warning tones are or the effect of the aperture control and what it does.In short the machine is ok, its sold off with most useful parts missing and available at a massive mark up separately. I understand they wanted something to beat the other £400-£800 machines on the market, and fine with the missing parts especially if you only want it for tool attachments. But we all know your going to get some on the floor, and a standard vacuum will eventually bust picking up brick a wood dust. But the half written manual is a bit off Makita, come on.

Great dust extractor up until the PTO failed.
Bought the Makita VC3012M/2 from Amazon Warehouse for just £294. It was very good at that price. Very powerful suction, all the hoses I needed and nice to have adjustable power to turn down for sanding. Unfortunately the PTO failed after about 5 hours total use so it had to go back. I bought a Festool MIDI instead. I wouldn't have bought the Makita at full price as it is a bit too industrial and lacked blower ability. It was pretty quiet though.

Pretty good so far but it’s quite bulky to store and transport
So far so good, you don’t get tools with it just the hose, luckily I already had some, but just be warned the tools are another 50 plus pounds, suction is pretty good and it’s not overly loud in operation.

Don't be deceived
Actually I haven't used it yet! It only comes with a hose so impossible to use as the wet & dry vacuum cleaner it states it is on the box. Have taken it up with Makita who stress it is not a vacuum cleaner (which is what it says on the box) but a dust extractor to be used with power tools. Okay, can only be used with a sander then. Makita are so tight they have't included the pipes etc. in this price, which isn't cheap. Still waiting for a price for the accessories.
