Amazing journey
I loved reading about the life journey of this amazing healer. Peter Levine was already an authority in the field of working with the body to release traumas. With this book he gives us a glimpse into how the healer in him grew and healed himself. We all need to heal ourselves, the healers among us make no exception. Our wounds can become places to hold great bright light.

An inspiration
I have read many of Levine's books and envisioned a man slightly bigger than life. This man has really made a difference in thousands of people's lives, and I never thought much about him—just what he was doing for others. Then I read the book, and I saw the price he paid for this knowledge and the source of his insightfulness. He shares the traumas of his childhood to help others, not to lay blame. It took a lot of courage to talk about the spiritual aspects of his life and how it influenced him. He will get some flack for that but some of know it's the truth, as we have done it. Contrary to what one review said, I thought he gave credit to the work of the giants who walked before him. It had to be difficult for a man of his age, cultural background, and stature to talk about the assault, which so influenced his life even if he is a therapist. Other famous men have spoken of their addictions and traumas, yet a sexual assault is not quite the same thing. I found it particularly interesting and helpful when he spoke about what some of us would call ancestrial burdens. My daughter is extremely sensitive as he is, and her therapist could not help or explain her crying issues. After reading about the Jews and the concentration camps, it makes sense. As a survivor of chronic trauma, he gave me inspiration and hope that all of this was not a waste, that you can turn lemons into lemonade, well, neutralize acid.He didn't have to expose himself like that; he made his mark on the world, so I think he really did this to help others, and I think he did so in this writing. If he hears me, then thank you, sir, for you have accomplished your goals. I suspect he drained the last of his wounds and now completes his healing.

Great insights
While the book provided great insights and background information, I purchased it based on an interview of Peter Levine. In that interview, I gained several insights and assumed I would receive more with the purchase of the audio book. Unfortunately, I found the reader to be distracting and not at all like listening to Peter Levine. I thank Peter Levine for his knowledge, his books and the contributions he has made to understanding trauma and how it may be released from the body. I wish he could have read this book for the audio version.

Loved it
I devoured this book. Exploring dimensions of childhood trauma and its lingering impacts through the narrative of Peters’s life was just the right formula to engage this sometimes distractible reader. Loved this book.

Great info for Peter Levine fans; but the writing is awful
For fans of Peter Levine’s work, this book provides very helpful backstory — it concerns elements of his personal history that led him to do the scientific and academic work, which defined his career. I found it very helpful to understand these personal details and how they put him on the career path he pursued. However, compared to his previous books — all from larger, more established publishing houses who invested in significant editing, I’m sure — this book feels very primitive, as though he made a bunch of notes or just one draft and handed them over to his publisher. As a book, it would benefit from more rewriting and shaping. But the content is new. I haven’t seen it elsewhere.
