Excellent mini keyboard.

I've previously owned several mini keyboards, mainly because my desk space is always cluttered and I don't have room for a full sized keyboard. Most of the mini keyboards I have owned have been rubbish. If they were good for typing (their primary function) they fell apart after little use or lost contact with the PC or had some other horrible fault. Others I have owned were just rubbish to type on and were quickly recycled.Last year I built myself a home Media Centre PC and my son recommended a Keysonic ACK540RF which I purchased in the silver finish. I found it extremely good to use with the Media Centre: it has a good range, a lovely touchpad and it worked straight out of the box.So once bitten, I thought I'd try one for my main desktop computer. I purchased the black one this time and I cannot praise it sufficiently. Again it worked straight out of the box with no drivers to install. I do prefer to use my Logitech VX Nano mouse, so I have disabled the touchpad, but as touchpads go, the one on the ACK540RF is excellent and I could probably get used to it quite easily. And there has been no interaction between the keyboard and mouse wireless controls.I've had none of the problems reported by others. Battery life is exemplary: the one used with the Media Centre which gets comparatively little use is still on the original batteries after 9 months: it is never switched off relying solely on the keyboard's own sleep function. Neither keyboards have experienced any problems staying connected to the PCs either. It is great for typing too with a good click, not too loud or intrusive and a just pleasant pressure resistance.A good keyboard is a valuable asset: this one is highly recommended.

Fantastic for the Raspberry Pi.

I have found this keyboard to be really really great when used with my little Pi. It is perfectly recognized as soon as you plug the USB receiver in the Raspberry and the touchpad works like a charm. This makes very easy to work with the computer while you are sat in the sofa. I can even do some programming without going to the "real" PC :). For a regular computer it is also very good. It has a very decent key size (they are as big as in a standard keyboard) and, overall, it feels like a keyboard from a decent laptop. On the not so bright side, I found that it tends to use quite a lot of battery. So, I decided to buy four rechargeable batteries. They cost me 2 pounds (in Poundland) and they last a lot of time. I always keep a pair charged to be in the safe side. All in all, I think that it is a great keyboard, too bad that it costs more than the Raspberry Pi itself.

Nice product but not perfect

This is a nice keyboard which works well and would have got 5 stars but for a few flaws. The action of the keyboard is just OK. It works fine if using for a multimedia system on the TV but I wouldn't want to use it to type an essay. The mouse pad is also just OK. Maybe it is because I only use it on a TV but I find it a bit vague. The range seems good (when the batteries are new at least) but it is hard on batteries and I would recommend a set of chargeable nimh batteries to go with it. It would be nice to be able to tone down the blue led which flashes every time you move the mouse or hit a key, it is really bright and a very annoying, I covered it with tape but then couldn't tell when it was switched off. All in all for this money I guess it is good value and unless you are a heavy user I could recommend it.

Poorly designed, slow response, designed for children with small hands

I read the reviews about this key sonic keyboard, got it and was disappointed. This product is very poor.Bad Points:Num lock is by default on when you boot into windows 7, so you type your password and o=6 etc, took me 15 mins to work that out, what is num lock on by default? The 'Enter' key is hard to find if your used not looking at a keyboard, you end up fumbling another ket as it is not on the edge of the keyboard, its in-between a group of keysThe cap lock has no light indicator ? Seriously? So you don't know what mode your in.The key action is 'springy', lot of travel in keys for some reasonThe mouse pad is sticky, not smooth to touch, maybe needs polished or somethingThe 2 mouse buttons are not integrated onto the track pad, they are separate, built into the frame of the keyboard. The trackpad is of center, makes it really awkward to get used toWireless connections cuts out from time to time, even at 50 cm's, maybe prone to interference, not sure, very annoyingGood points:Might be ok if you use it to control your media station or something simple like thatGeneral:Cheap and poorly designed bit of kit, too much functionality squashed onto a keyboard, slow response sometimes, I really don't understand how this got good reviews,

Latest version from Keysonic

I was weaned on a laptop, so I find a traditional mouse and key board awkward to use.I have own three of these keyboards, two of them are the older silver versions and this own.So I can compare them. The silver one is good enough to use as a pc keyboard and I have written hundreds of documents using them. The black one is designed for using with Wi-Fi devices etc. from your armchair.Pros: new one has nice soft touch feel to it - has a switch to conserve power - uses only 2 AAA batteries - touch pad has improved, by omitting the scroll section, and has finger tap control.Cons: key layout is odd - with the delete key next to the direction arrows - mouse buttons are too small and on a angle which is more aesthetic than ergonomic - it still eats batteries, even with a on/off switch, but to be fair it does get a lot of use.Of the two the old own is better, so I have swopped my office and home one around & use the older owns most of the time - with the new one for mobile devices, for which it is surely designed.
