Beautiful photographs of amazing places
Dorling Kindersley books are all about photographs and this one certainly doesn't disappoint. This picture book takes a tour round a selection of the world's amazing natural sights, and combines it with a little geology and natural history. Many of the shots show familiar places from new and unusual angles, and composition, lighting and technical quality are superb. There are perhaps just two or three shots that ought not to have passed the quality threshold, plus some really superb ones are frustratingly reproduced too small to be appreciated properly, but these are small criticisms. Top marks to all the individual photographers and the picture editors. The text is also typical of DK. With limited space available for words, you will be disappointed if you want some in depth reading. But treating the text as extended captions, there is some good information to support the images - mostly concerning geological details about how the landscapes were created, but also some geography, natural history and weather.A great book to be dipped into at leisure, to wonder at the world through beautiful photographs, with fascinating facts thrown in as a bonus.

Wow!!
This is an utterly fantastic book in my opinion. It is stacked full of the most brilliant and stunningly beautiful photography from every corner of the globe. It also has explanations of processes including colour illustrations and diagrams. How could anyone fail to be impressed really. At this price its totally amazing!!

Beautiful book
For anyone who is interested in science and nature, you will love it. It's a quality book with both concise text, and stunning photos. One can use it for reference and skim through the salient points and stats, or read it verbatim. Either way, it's a good read without being too compound complex. The pages are colour-coded for ease of category search,

Lovely book...
Shame about the packaging. This is a Christmas gift and I'm in two minds whether to return it. Surely a book of this quality needs a bit of soft inner packaging?

Absolutely worth it
This book was bought as a Christmas present for my mother who is a nature fanatic and she could not have been any happier with this book. Even I was taken aback when I had a quick flick through it before I wrapped it up. The book was in pristine condition and everything from the facts and the pictures just captures you and it is hard to tear yourself away

A truly wonderful work!
A colourful, visual feast of a book which transports you to the various Continents highlighting a fair selection of fascinating sites which provide an engrossing selection of interesting features. The photography and accompanying art work are exquisite and the related text is concise, but more than enough to supply adequate, interesting information. It also has a handy directory and a good index to help you find what looking for quickly. It is a big, quite heavy book that will be at home on a coffee table or sturdy bookshelf. A great addition to any home library, it would also make an ideal gift. DK publications have always been good value for money, tackling a wide range of subjects, and have been steadily improving on all fronts. I think this is probably their best effort yet.
