Four stars for an excellent appliance, but Zero stars for the manual !
Tefal FW605840 Multifunction Air Fryer Oven 20 L ... purchased 04 May 2024GeneralI haven't tried all the functions yet, so the following is based on my experiences so far. My air fry results are based on trial and error and information from non-Tefal sources since the User Manual (see below) was less than helpful.Pros -- General... All the accessories are available to buy/replace from Tefal online and are reasonably priced.... Controls are very intuitive and time and temperature can be adjusted during the cooking process.... The crumb tray slides under the two bottom elements, and covers the entire oven floor. This avoids the fiddly job of trying to avoid the bottom elements whilst cleaning the bottom of the oven.... It's easy to clean.... It does not require to be preheated prior to use.... It's very quiet, practically silent.... The interior is a generous 12 inch / 30 cm wide.... It cooks pretty evenly and I've not noticed any obvious hot/cold spots.... It's very light and easy to move, particularly if placed on a "slider / skid" mat.Pros -- Cooking Modes... Air Fry mode... ... Smoked streaky bacon, 200C, 5-7 mins.... ... Both standard and chunky frozen chips, 180C, 10-12 mins.... ... One inch chunks of raw potatoes tossed in olive oil and herbs, 200C, 10-12 mins.... ... One inch pieces of raw broccoli, tossed in olive oil and herbs, 200C, 6-7 mins.... ... Fresh quarterpounders, 190C, 7-8 mins.... ... Two gouda cheese slices on top of burgers melted within 2 mins during "warm" mode.... ... Sliced onions sprayed with oil,190C, 7-10 mins (dependent upon crispiness).... Baking mode ... It blind bakes a shortcrust pastry case beautifully at 190C in 15-20 mins. It's also perfect for part-baked baguettes, garlic bread, refreshing pastries, etc. At 70C, it takes about 5 mins to refresh leftover prawn crackers. At 60C for 4-5 mins, it's very handy for heating the dinner plates and/or serving dishes.... Pizza mode ... Pizza dough ham and gouda cheese "sausage rolls", baked on the rack but with parchment underneath them to stop the melted cheese dripping everywhere, 220C, 10-12 mins.... Toast mode ... It toasts bread and crumpets more evenly than any toaster I've ever used and is fast making our existing pop-up toaster redundant.Cons -- Accessories... The accessories are hand wash only which may be problematic if they are very greasy and you have a small sink.... Despite having a large sink and using plenty of hot, soapy water, I wasn't happy with the cleanliness of the basket. It remained stubbornly "sticky" and I didn't want to store it alongside my clean pans; neither did I want it on the kitchen worktop where it could attract all kinds of contamination (flies, dust, etc).... Eventually I decided to put it in the dishwasher. It's now been through the dishwasher a dozen or so times and I'm happy with the result. So far, there are no signs of rust on the basket or damage to any of the frame's fixing points. Please note, I am NOT recommending others do the same. I am just recounting my experience.Cons -- User Manual / Instructions... The User Manual -- 15.50 cm H x 11 cm W -- is disappointing in that it contains NO example recipes and very little "usage" information on the seven pages devoted to the English language. The typeface, whilst clear, is very small thus making it tedious to read. I downloaded the PDF version and printed A4 versions of the "Cooking Modes" and "Cooking Guide" charts which I hoped would provide a handy introductory reference. Ummmhhhh.... The Modes chart indicates the recommended rack/tray position and preset/default temperature for each mode.... The Guide chart gives suggested times and temperatures for VERY few generic food types.... ... Air Fryer = chips and chicken nuggets.... ... Roast = whole chicken and salmon fillet.... ... Grill = macaroni cheese.... ... Bake = chocolate cake and cookies.... ... Pizza = pizzas.... ... Toast = sliced bread and bagels.... ... Dehydrate = apples and bananas.... The minimal list is probably fine for those already familiar with the conventional cooking modes, but it's far from helpful to those new to air frying in an "oven" and who might wish to expand their repertoire beyond chips and chicken nuggets.... In fact, I'm beginning to wonder whether the airfry information was prepared by someone who had never used this appliance. The Cooking Guide -- in both time and temperature -- seems way off according to my experience so far. That belief is reinforced by several references to using BOTH baskets (there's only one) and opening the drawer to check food (there are NO drawers and you can see the food through the door window !).... I discovered lots of recipes and information on the internet, but most of it -- including Tefal's website -- was for dedicated drawer-style air fryers and, although it was helpful, I didn't find it particularly easy to convert the recipes to suit this machine.... In the heel of the hunt, I googled similar combi machines from other manufacturers and downloaded their -- free -- recipe books. Considering that some of them were far cheaper, they managed to provide a great deal more useful and accurate information ! In this regard, Tefal should be ashamed of themselves. My Tips -- Air Fry mode... If using the air frying basket for items tossed in oil or containing fat, I recommend using the slide-in roasting tray in the bottom position. Some oil / fat does drip down and -- if not noticed, as in my case ! -- it falls on the crumb tray and can be burnt on during subsequent usage. Getting burnt-on oil off the crumb tray is not a job for the faint-hearted.... When trying something new, start off at a lower temperature and for a shorter time than you think it will take. If it's not cooked, you can then make an informed judgement as to whether to increase temperature, time or both.ConclusionDespite everything, I am very pleased with this appliance which provides the perfect complement to my conventional gas cooker. It's ideal for cooking smaller quantities, or as an overspill when I run out of space in my main cooker. The Air Fry mode is faster than expected and very handy for producing quick meals, side dishes, etc. Now I am beginning to get to grips with times and temperatures, I'm sure I'll be using this mode on a regular basis. As regards stars, that's been tricky. I'm really peeved about the manual / instructions, but the machine itself is excellent.

Nothing short of incredible
The media could not be loaded. Hands down one of the best kitchen appliances I’ve ever bought, and it’s getting used multiple times every day. It’s super quiet, CONSIDERABLY more lightweight compared to some popular competitors on the market, and it cooks quickly with great tasting results. The larger capacity certainly assists with the cooking results; for example with the air fryer tray in the middle and some wedges in the basket, all the space for the air to circulate makes them super crispy, and I’ve never had to shake the tray or flip anything over once. My previous air fryer had the food always touching the bottom of the unit, so the top would always be over cooked / started to burn while underneath was still soggy; that issue has completely disappeared with the Tefal. You get a drip tray included, but I like to put the baking tray underneath the air fryer basket, too (as you can see in the video) as an additional “catching tray”. Especially when cooking Chicken Kiev’s for example, it’s much easier to clean the garlic butter that’s dripped onto the baking tray below, than risk is getting all over the heating elements at the bottom of the oven. The range of programs allows for maximum versatility, and it’s also super easy to clean.Very happy with this purchase and I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a much lighter weight, compact, yet spacious air fryer oven, from a trusted brand that produces great results!

Great oven.
Really quiet. Easy to use. Better than our last more expensive air fryer.

Pathetically ridicule of a designe
No handles to get hot basket, grill or whatever out of oven. Fat drips beneath your direction of movement while holding whatever with oven gloves. You guess the temperature of pre-heating. I’m going to feel guilty if I actually sell it. I’ll give away with a warning ⚠️

Watch for the Packaging
The oven seems O/K. The written work is far to small to read. The oven guide is quite useless a couple of charts no recipes. The packaging is a 2 box Chinese puzzle, definitely not for an ordinary consumer to unpack, I needed assistance to unpack the oven. Very little opportunity to custom set time and temperature which for me takes a lot of the fun from cooking.

Cooks amazing and fast !
Great product - cooks great and fast - easy to use - 1 design flaw with the handle stops it getting a 5 star as its pretty irritating that unless you have the air frier pulled to front of your side board when you open the air frier door it opens down and as the pull handle sticks out about 2 inches the handle stops on the counter top and makes it really hard to get the bottom tray and crumb tray in or out of the oven. The door should really open to the side or there should be a 2 inch plynth at the bottom of the oven before the door starts so it allows for the door to open fully.
