Just what I was looking for
My wife is super sensitive to smells and I had to make a little painting booth out of a large cardboard box for when I am finishing some of my projects. I managed to mount this in the side of the box and it allows me to finish some projects with the box left open for a while. Once I am done spraying I can close the "paint booth" and allow this to do its job. works pretty well too. She came out to the shop and couldn't smell any fumes and I had just set one object in the box and had the extractor running and no smells. Works great for this application and the few times I do some soldering I can easily remove from the box and set up on the workbench. It moves quite a bit of air and although the filters look like just a foam square but The item description says it's a carbon filter. I think I can use some other air cleaner filters cut down once the installed one and the spare is used up. I really like it variable speed it does get a bit loud on highest speed but I am usually wearing headphones so not an issue

Really good fan. Pulls Solder fumes away quickly
Works great at keeping the fumes away from your face, don't know why I didn't get this sooner. Strong pull from fan quickly removes fumes from being breathed in, keeping your workspace safer and healthier. Fan is not very loud, yet strong enough to be 100% satisfied.

Works perfectly as long as you know what to expect!
Here's the thing about these little self-contained solder fume extractors. They don't really filter out most of the smoke. What they do is redirect it away from your face. They do some filtration but if you're expecting your area to not smell like flux when you're done you'll be disappointed. As long as you understand what these do and what they don't it's an excellent device. It stays up high enough that you can actually put it more for what you're working on and the fan is plenty powerful enough to draw the solder fumes away from your face. I've included a picture of it with my average large size hand so you can see how big it is.
