The perfect whistle for beginners, and a very nice one for veterans
I owned about eight different whistles from all sorts of different cheap(ish) manufacturers before I went all-out and bought a full set of Chieftain whistles for £450. Of those eight whistles, this Clarke C is pretty much the only one I still play. The Chieftain C has a beautiful sound, and it's way, way louder than the Clarke, but the lovely 'breathy' sound you get from the wooden block in the Clarke makes a sound that is very hard to recreate in other whistles. It's a really great whistle to play. It does feel cheap compared to the more expensive, luxurious whistles out there, but it's lightweight. I like the way it tapers down to a narrow point - it makes it very playable indeed. It's very easy to control the octave you play in. Very little pressure is needed to hit the higher notes in the second octave (something the Chieftain C doesn't offer in the same way). This combination of factors makes this the perfect whistle for beginners, in my opinion.

Clarke C Tin Whistle
This tin whistle is "breathy" when you play the notes, but that is typical for a Clarke whistle. The whistle does give a good sound though. It is quite an easy instrument to learn and comes at a great price too.Because this isn't a low whistle (which tends to have a longer gap between holes) it is suitable if you have smaller and thinner fingers.I would recommend getting this whistle as a starter, but if you aren't keen on how "airy" it is, you may want to look at others which are around the same price.

Harder to play compared to other whistles
I bought this as I liked the design and it was handy to have a C whistle, and yes, it is pretty and can be useful. However, compared to my other whistles, it needs A LOT more breath and, while I like a bit of breathiness, this is too much for me. Because the bore (body) is made from one piece, there is also an uncomfortable seam where the thumb sits at the back. I don't enjoy playing it and wouldn't recommend it, particularly not for a beginner.

A great whistle. Highly Recommended
A wonderful Tin Whistle with a real great breathy tone. Its important to note that the wooden block in the head does require you to project more when breathing into the whistle but its a marginal requirement compared to a standard plastic head Clarke whistle. This Whistle really sings in its zone and it sounds beautiful in the process

What a wonderful whistle!
I wanted a more mellow whistle to my high d, and decided to give this whistle a go.Very easy to hold and I love the tapered bore.I am still getting used to playing all the notes cleanly in both registers, but I am loving the sound of this airy whistle.

A Charming Gift for Someone Special or For Yourself
I was browsing the musical instruments section of Amazon. My brother plays the guitar and he loves to have his guests sing or play along in the evenings after dinner. My vocal range, never operatic, has dwindled to practically nil, so I wanted something I could play that was slightly more substantial than a kazoo, but not much more challenging.I've seen pennywhistles played in films and thought I'd give this a try. When it came, I was delighted. The box alone is worth the price. It features the Clarke logo, a dancing flute player and the date, I assume the company was founded, 1843. It really is made in England. The back of the box tells the company story and the story of pennywhistles.Inside, there's a fingering chart and song sheet, which, if you are musical, is probably enough to get you started. It's not enough for me. I played with it a little, but it's going to take more practice than I have time for right now to play real tunes. I don't think it's harder than a recorder. If you're already good at that, you should be able to pick it up easily. If you're like me, you'll let a search engine find you some free in-home lessons.Meanwhile, I'm enjoying this pretty little instrument and its charming presentation.

(Normalmente in negozio ne costa fra i 20 e i 25...)Mi mancava la tonalità in Do, avendo già quella in Re. Così finalmente la mia collezione di tin whistle è completa... tutta la gamma Generation (dal Sol alto al Si bemolle) e ora i due Clarke (in Re l'avevo già)... Me molto contento!
