When i received the t480, it was in perfect condition and didn’t seem to be damaged at all, everything’s works fine, but the keyboard it came with was damaged, i contacted the seller and they replied quick, next day a new keyboard arrived free of charge, but it had issues also, so i asked to to send me a new one but to test it to make sure it works, and they did and it works perfectly, other than that everything else was great no scratches no hardware issues (other than the keyboard, the specs were correct, i installed arch on here. make sure to update the thunderbolt driver though becauses will break if you don’t, also mine didn’t arrive with an internal battery because the t480 comes with two battery slots mine only came with the one on on the outside they shipped a internal battery for my t480 alongside the first keyboard i requested and it works great. Seller is very kind and gave me two keyboards and a battery for free. If you have any issues and need a new part just make sure you ask them to test it especially if it’s a keyboard before they ship you a new one. The smudges on the top on the picture are from me touching it, it came very clean as well, they did a good job refurbishing and cleaning this laptop. Would recommend to others.

Pretty much mint condition. Seller was quick to respond. Mine came with the internal 24wh battery worn down to 15wh actual capacity, and the external 24wh down to 9.78wh. It was something like 200 and 400 cycles respectively. Haven't tested fully, but looks like I'll get at least 6 hours of light use which is plenty.I got a T480 because both of my old laptops basically have keyboards that cannot be replaced. I would have had to literally rip them out while trying not to damage the plastic frames. On a T480 it's a simple 2 minute pop out the old one, pop in the new. Ram is also upgradeable, whereas in newer thinkpads it's soldered. I like the size, weight, and feel of it.

Case and keyboard are perfect. No key marks on screen. This one had no fingerprint reader or internal battery, things IT departments hate. I purchased an OEM Lenovo internal battery and installed it. 16Gb memory (2 x 8Gb) is more than adequate. The case is easy to open for upgrades.

Received T480 in worse condition than expected, especially given my previous good experience with seller. Main issues: touchpad is very unresponsive (making navigation frustrating) and screen bezel is loose. While basic functions work (CPU, memory, keyboard), these problems make daily use difficult. Not the quality I expected from a ThinkPad. Would hesitate to recommend unless you're planning to use external mouse and can overlook physical wear.

This is a great computer for an excellent price. However, after I purchased it I was sent the wrong item (the computer that arrived had a 1366x768 display rather than the 1080p display advertised). After I notified the seller, they were prompt with their responses and paid for me to ship it back, and then I received the proper item and I am very satisfied with it. It's kinda weird that it came with an HP branded charger, though.

Many have recommended the older thinkpads as affordable project laptops for those looking to learn linux and/or make modifications. I don't usually see the t480 in these recommendations and I don't know why. Ethernet supports up to 1gbps, but I can't attest to the wlan speeds.-------------------------------------------------Now, if that's enough for you to want to pick this up and use it with the included Win 11 Pro os, you can stop here, but fair warning: I did not test all of the features on windows before installing linux and you may run into the same battery and biometrics issues I encountered with linux. You may want to consider if that's a deal breaker for you or if your willing to find a solution to them yourself, which you likely can.If you are planning on using this as a linux based system, keep reading to see what hiccups I ran into and how I solved them.After confirming that the basic components of the laptop were functioning as they should be, I rebooted to a flash and installed Ubuntu 22.0.4. Technically this is a little behind, but if you know anything about Ubuntu, you know they release updates regularly and this frequency doesn't always offer the greatest user experience.You should probably use a slightly older version of whatever fork you choose (mint, arch, etc.), and don't forget to check your kernel version before installing so that you have the most up to date drivers.In my case, installation was smooth, simple and very quick. The battery and biometrics on the other hand took up my free time for a couple of days (keep in mind this is my first dedicated linux install, though I've previously played around with debian in some hypervisors).First thing I noticed was that the bio-scanner wasn't detected. This was pretty simple, as I just looked up how to disable/enable the scanner. After this, I attempted to follow the instructions for programming it to my fingerprints via the terminal. This worked... I guess? I had a high rate of failure using the scanner to log in or to acquire root permissions. I decided to look through the user settings and founds that the GUI had an option for programming the biometrics. After saving a couple of my prints it worked! Not only that, it works perfectly every time, so after enabling it I recommend you use the UI to save your credentials.Next up, I knew that there was something wrong with the batteries because they had been dying every 3 hours or so. Taking a look at my components in the terminal showed that only one battery was connected.I detached the extra one and restarted the computer, then reattached it and it showed up but it wasn't doing anything. It just sat at 99% until the internal batt died and shutdown my system. Not ideal.This is when I found out about tlp. Installing tlp and using admin perms to edit it's .conf file allowed me to not only make my external battery my primary battery, but it also let me set the start/stop threshold of my charger. If you aren't sure what that means:Let's say you have a long days working from the desk and you leave your computer plugged in. Normally overcharging or fully depleting the battery will reduce it's endurance and overall lifespan. With tlp, you can set your computer to only charge until the battery hits, say 85%. Then it won't start charging again until let's say 15%.You can choose the values that work for you, but keeping it above the minimum and below the maximum will give your power sources a healthier and longer life and you can keep working without having to think about it.Thankfully, I can't say I've had any other issues. I have only had this for a week and am yet to make hardware upgrades, but I'm loving it so far! I hope this review helps.
