Is really short in the seat, feels unstable when reclined. Original Newton is SO much better.
I purchased this directly from the manufacturer because of their return policy, i.e. it can be returned for any reason within 30 days without charge. First you need to read the fineprint, because if you require help packaging it OR if you need a new box, you have an almost 500 charge. If you can get it back into the original box on your own then you are not charged. Given that it weighs 150 pounds, it will take a couple people to rebox. Once the base is attached, it is next to impossible to get it off, so the Svago said to just leave it on the base as they know that it next to impossible to get it off.As for the chair, I would take a hard pass and am in fact in the process of returning it and will get a new Newton which I love. It may be that this style chair just doesn't work on a swivel or needs more work. It doesn't recline as far back as the Newton, but would have been sufficient for me if there were not major issues. It feels so "rickety" when reclined, you feel as if you are balanced precariously and could tip at any time. Of course it didn't tip but I couldn't get comfortable with the constant small motion when reclined, The controls are wonky too. You have what seem to be duplicate controls with the remote and the dial. As near as I could figure there isn't an air pump for the cervical area or head incline but may be one for the lumbar spine. It didn't really matter as there were critical issues which couldn't be fixed. The Newton which I have had for 4 years and sleep in nightly as I have degenerative disc disease and there isn't a single disc in my spine which isn't herniated and the bottom of my spine is fused. Laying flat results in muscle cramps that my sister says looks like aliens under the skin on my back and they hurt! The Newton is a life saver and I always wished it would swivel as it is big and heavy so you remain more or less locked in one space. Recently the second motor which controls the foot lift stopped working. It was still under the 5 year extended warranty, so is supposedly going to be fixed.....I am still waiting but will update as to whether the company stands behind that warranty or not. In the meantime I checked this one out and decided to purchase it for the living room so there would be more than one spot where I could comfortably rest. The Newtons seat depth is almost 23 inches. The swivel is only 19 inches and I felt as if I was falling out simply because it wasn't long enough. The width of the seat which was provided is the same. I am not sure why there was such a big reduction in the depth. While I was 5"10+ before spinal issues I am now down to 5'6". My legs however are still as long as always so take that into account before deciding whether it will work for you. Definitely if you are taller or were blessed with long legs, you will not find this chair comfortable when not reclined. I don't want to always be reclined so this was a deal killer. The wood sides look as you would expect (fake), but the leather quality is decent. The leather was pulled an stapled into place which is odd. The Newton has a completely removable leather seat/pad so it could be replaced if damaged or overly worn if the frame remained operable. With the swivel one, I think it would be a complete reupholstery project which would be far more expensive then justified.I had picked the caramel color and it is a nice neutral, perhaps a bit lighter and not as soft as others I have owned. Whatever you do don't purchase the white. I did so with another manufacturer years ago and it looked horrible very quickly, showing stain, mark, smear, etc. I have the dark grey one now which is also a great color. You don't buy these chairs usually for how they look but rather how they make your back feel, so that may explain why the color choices are all standard neutrals which work well with any other furniture. The massage action on all the chairs is laughable. The Newton down right hurts. On this one one of the selections felt like there were two pop cans under my butt being raised and lowered. It was interesting but not comfortable and certainly nothing like a true massage......at least any I have had. The heat function does work but it doesn't get very hot. For me that is fine as I live with a heating pad on top of the chair. All of the chairs I have owned get spotted and peel where you rest your feet. I don't know why. Svago's Newton is head and shoulders better than any other zero gravity chair made. Being able to adjust your incline and raise feet independently of each other is a true game changer in maximizing comfort. This one may get better with improved design, but for right now, I would take a pass and stick with the one that made this company the best in zero gravity chairs.
