Vintage Ariete...Quality questionable!
Over the past thirty years I have owned many home espresso machines in the lower end of the price spectrum. They generally have a life span of 3 years, after which they must be replaced as they usually cannot be repaired. We purchased the Ariete Vintage model in pastel green. I have been using it 3-4 times daily for the past two weeks so have a pretty good idea on how this machine will stand the test of time. The machine looks great on the kitchen counter. Every time I use it I feel good about it's appearance. It is pretty easy to use. I use the two cup porta filter insert. The insert remains loose in the filter after being engaged and at times will stick to the machine when removing the porta filter. This is very inconvenient. An espresso draw creates a decent shot but does not compare to better shots that I have gotten from other machines. This machine does not create a good crema, a failure on its part. The frother seems useless as after using different grades of milk there has been NO foam. It has a very flimsy build and I wonder how long it will hold up before totally failing. I probably will not use it.It takes a while for the boiler to heat the water.I totally dislike the on off switch being located in the lower back of the machine. This necessitates having to pull the machine out from the wall every time you want to turn it on or off...an inconvenience that should have been avoided. This also can make it easy to forget to turn the machine off.The water tank is relatively small, having to be refilled daily.Overall the machine feels somewhat poor in build. I feel I will be fortunate if I can get two years of use from it.Next time I need a machine I think I will step up to a more expensive, better built Italian model...These Chinese made products just don't cut it.
