Very expensive.  I mean very expensive.  Why wouldn’t I purchase a 6 outlet power strip for $20, retro fit using your instructions?

Safety comes at a cost, and we work hard daily to find the right balance between safety and costs. We could lower the cost of our products, but we will not compromise on safety. For example, electrical testing. We could have chosen to simply RECOGNIZED our outlets with a Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTLs) but instead, we LISTED them. This means that Docking Drawer outlets are approved for use in movable locations in the US and Canada since they are LISTED and not just RECOGNIZED. Installing Listed solutions means that the MANUFACTURER accepts responsibility for the in-drawer outlets intended use vs installing Recognized solutions means the SPECIFIER and INSTALLER assume the responsibility for in-drawer outlets intended use. Know your risk. Electrical certifications are not inexpensive, nor is liability insurance.

Every Docking Drawer in-drawer outlet includes an interlocking safety feature that cuts power to the outlet when surrounding temperatures exceed 120° F. This patented; standard feature allows us to say with confidence that it's safe to connect any type of device, from chargeable tech to small appliances, to your Docking Drawer outlet.

Our Independent Safety Laboratory, Intertek, requires our outlets to go through a 25,000 cycle test. We took that requirement and raised it 1,900%, cycle testing our outlets a standard of 500,000 times. This is the equivalent of opening and closing a drawer every fifteen minutes over the span of thirty years. Every 100,000 cycles, we stop the test to perform a physical inspection of the mechanical parts of the outlet. We're checking everything from basic wear and tear to worn or cracked wiring. Following the cycle test, we send our outlet cables to the lab of our manufacturer, where they perform an inspection to see if the outlet cables still meet the original specifications after use endured during cycle testing. Which they do, thanks partly to our use of stranded cables which allow the outlet's wires to flex and not break.

All cables within our in-drawer outlets are held in place with the help of strain reliefs, which provide a transition from a flexible cable to a rigid connector. This relieves the mechanical force applied to the exterior of the cables from being transferred to the electrical terminations, which could lead to a failure. Strain reliefs also enhance the flex life performance of the cables within the cable management arms, the mechanism responsible for guiding and protecting the power cord as the drawer opens and closes.

We also do not compromise on quality. We use all metal components, use high-quality wiring, and proven outlets.

A power strip is not intended to be used as permanent wiring and is not intended for movable applications which is one of the ways they can be so inexpensive. What is the length of the cord arm when fully extended?
