Dry lining
The 'Mud Pan' as the Americans like to call it, is very good, could do with a grip on the bottom as I have seen on more expensive ones, but you could stick something on the the bottom for more grip, but to be honest haven't needed to. Don't bother buying the plastic version as it's a waste of money just buy this metal one and it will last you. Very easy to use and clean up afterwards.

Good.
I think it is more of a Yank thing - they use these for plastering. I bought this for filling and the sharp edges are great for scraping the filler from knives and is good to carry and hold plenty of filler. Shouldnt rust because its totally made from stainless. Proper plasterers will manage happily with an upturned trowel but DIYers will get a lot of benefit from this. Just dont use quick fill as it will go off very quickly,

Well made, and well worth the money
This is a decent product and there’s not too much else to say about it. It’s well made and durable. Sometimes a bit tricky to get the mix out of the corners but apart from that I thoroughly recommend it

Great product
A tool that any DIYer should have. Perfect for easy filler or plaster. Sharp edges ensures no wastage and makes it easy to clean. If you are contemplating between buying this or the plastic version, then spend the extra few pounds and buy this one! Really impressed.

good robust mud pan
Bought this to replace a plastic mud pan. As a not very good amateur I was shaving bits off the plastic pan with the taping knife. Very pleased with the Stanley mud pan, have used it to skim some walls prior to painting. Hopefully it will not rust either as it is stainless steel.

challenging to scrape off excess mud or joint compound smoothly
As a customer who has used the Stanley 005867 305mm (12-inch) Stainless Steel Mud Pan, I would like to provide a review outlining the good and bad aspects of this item. The good:1. Durable construction: The mud pan is made of stainless steel, which is known for its durability and resistance to corrosion. This ensures that the pan can withstand frequent use and last for a long time, even in demanding construction environments.2. Easy to clean: The stainless steel material of the mud pan makes it easy to clean. You can quickly wipe away excess mud and debris, ensuring that the pan remains in good condition and ready for the next use.3. Convenient size: With a 305mm (12-inch) width, this mud pan provides ample space for holding a sufficient amount of mud or joint compound. The size is suitable for most common drywall and plastering tasks, allowing for efficient and smooth application.4. Comfortable grip: The mud pan features a comfortable grip handle that allows for secure and ergonomic handling during use. This helps reduce hand fatigue, making it easier to work for longer periods without discomfort. The bad:1. Limited flexibility: The mud pan is a solid, rigid structure, which means it lacks flexibility. This can make it challenging to scrape off excess mud or joint compound smoothly, especially in tight corners or when working on curved surfaces. In such cases, a more flexible tool, such as a hawk or a curved mud pan, may be more suitable.2. Lack of depth markings: Unlike some mud pans on the market, the Stanley 005867 does not have depth markings inside the pan. These markings can be helpful for accurately measuring and mixing the right amount of mud or joint compound. Without depth markings, you may need to use a separate measuring tool or estimate the amount of material needed. In summary, the Stanley 005867 305mm (12-inch) Stainless Steel Mud Pan offers durability, easy cleaning, a convenient size, and a comfortable grip handle. However, it has some limitations in terms of flexibility and the absence of depth markings. If you primarily work on straight surfaces and prioritize durability and ease of cleaning, this mud pan can be a reliable choice. However, if you frequently work on curved or tight areas or require precise measurements, you may want to consider other options that offer more flexibility and depth markings.

stainless
The edges are a little bit sharp as others have said, just lightly sand or file to suit.I had bought a blue plastic one first as others have done only to find some bits of blue plastic come off. This Stanley fits very nicely inside the plastic one .I find it then easier to hold.
