Here’s all you need to know about this monitor
This device is designed to plug in to an AC power outlet inside your home and let you know with simple red or green lights if your garage door is open or closed. If the door is open the red light will flash brightly. If the door is closed the green light will glow. If the door is open you can close it using a button on the monitor. Here are the key things you need to know:1. Although sold by Liftmaster this monitor will work with any garage door opener that has the MyQ feature installed, regardless of brand. Liftmaster openers are sold under the Chamberlain and Sears Craftsman brand names, among others. MyQ is a feature that connects to your home WiFi system and permits you to operate enabled products (garage door and gate openers) using an app on a smartphone. It is built in to many of the newer openers and can be added to any “MyQ-enabled” opener. Note that MyQ does require you to have WiFi and also have a smartphone.2. This is not exactly the same as the remote opener on your garage wall or outside wall in that it will NOT open the door, the push button will only close the door from wherever you have the monitor plugged in.3. There is no real installation, just plug it in, push a small button on the back and within 60 seconds press the “learn” button on your garage door opener. They instantly pair and recognize each other.4. Some of the user questions and answers are a little misleading … there are actually two different “alert tones” involved. One is a beeper inside the monitor that can be set to warn you if the garage door is being opened. This is a great security feature or just a nice convenience to give you a heads-up that someone is home. Our garage door is so silent I have been startled more than once to find a family member walk up who I didn’t know was home. The beep sound like the one in your microwave and has a 3-position volume control or you can turn it off, and when turned on it will give a short beep occasionally to remind you that the garage door is open. The other alert tone is actually built in to your garage door motor unit and sounds if you close your garage door using any MyQ remote device (smartphone, this monitor, etc). It is a loud beep that sounds like an alarm clock and it can’t be turned off because it is a required safety feature. If you close your door remotely the tone will sound a loud beep first to warn anyone near the garage to stand clear of the door, then it waits a few seconds before starting the motor to close the door.5. This monitor can be used with up to 4 openers (garage door or gate) but it will only tell you that one or more of them is open, not which one or how many. When you push the “close” button ALL of the doors will close at once.I have been considering buying this monitor for a very long time but what kept me away is I didn’t think I would like the design. In the product description it looks like it has to be placed on a tabletop or counter and you have to look straight down at it to see the lights. I thought a wall-mounted unit would have been a better design. After I got it, I plugged it in and put it on a low cabinet that we can see while watching TV, which puts it at about eye level. We can easily see the lights from that angle. It happens to be next to the stairwell so it is the last thing we see before going up to bed so we can be assured that the garage doors are closed before we turn in. The peace of mind is worth every penny this device costs, and the convenience of having a subtle alert when someone comes home is a nice bonus. This device works exactly as expected and I think it is a good value at the price.

Great feature for your MyQ garage door
I don't know why this seems to be discontinued. It is very handy to not have to check my phone to see if garage door is closed before going to sleep. Set up was easy. Provides audible notification when door is opened or closed. LED indicator for door status.

Simple, Reliable, Inexpensive, Informative, Compact
Though my garage door is protected from the street, I still sometimes leave it open by accident, especially at night. Were the garage in the front and left open, who knows what gets stolen? This device monitors the open/close state of the door.It is a MyQ-branded device. As I had upgraded my circa-2008 Chamberlain Whisper Pro to a MyQ master controller ( Chamberlain CIGCWC Internet/Smartphone Connectivity Kit for Chamberlain Garage Door Openers ) I'm not sure if this device works on a non-MyQ system. I do know it works with my MyQ system, which also allows me to control the door using a free app on my phone. And there is no fee or third party required. This small device (4" wide, 3" deep, 1-1/4" high) plugs into the wall and is powered by a small wall wart. I put it on our bedside table so I can see it at bedtime. To program it, you press the "Learn" button on the back, which starts it blinking. You then have 60 seconds to press the "Learn" button out in the garage's main controller. It will beep twice to confirm communication. In my case, however, it beeped but didn't work. After several failed tries, I decided to erase its memory and start over, which I did per its instructions. Pressing "Learn" on both ends then successfully linked the devices, much like an ordinary remote opener.Features:1. If the door's open, the red LED flashes. You can't miss it.2. If the door's closed, the green LED glows continuously.3. There is a "Close Door" button if you want to close it. (You cannot open the door from this device.)4. If you close the door using the device, it beeps to warn you. There is a Beep Volume control that allows Off and three levels of volume. It gives me information I lacked before. I like it.

Use to Monitor Gate Status. Perfect!
I bought this to use to monitor my vehicle gate entry way. It's perfect. Sometimes one of us would come in after working in the yard late in the evening and forget we left it open. Having to go out later in our pajamas or just not remember to manually close it al all was annoying. This monitor reminds us if it's RED, someone forgot! Just press the button to close. Now as other reviews have mentioned it does not OPEN. But that's okay because the MyQ APP on my phone lets me do that. This device is MyQ compatible so it programmed well to my Liftmaster gate opener. It does seem to be a shame there is no wall mounted option. It is designed to be a table top piece. Hence it's angled design. However; I found placement of it anywhere in the room to be far away and inconvenient. Using a bit of aptitude; I decided to mount it in the hallway where we will ALWAYS see the status. We have to walk to our rooms every night and in the dark it's even easier to see the bright LED's that lets us know we missed it. Since this cannot be hardwired to AC; and you need the transformer; I put a hole and some line in the wall as shown to fish it down to the outlet. This makes it a great addition without having to see wires. The wife complained she didn't like the beeping when I left in the morning when the gate was opening cause it woke her up so just press the volume icon several times to adjust it to low or OFF.Point is....works as it SHOULD and I am very glad I spent the $35 bucks. And if you use a little extra effort, you CAN mount it on a wall. Recommend Highly!
