I bought an expensive bicycle and wanted to know that it would be there when I came back. I got an estimate from an insurance company which was £90 cover for the year and the bike had to be secured by this type of lock. The lock itself is very robust and I have concluded that there is little likelihood of the bike being stolen while the lock is on. Brought this lock for its gold standard which validated my cycle travel insurance and since most other gold or indeed silver standard locks cost near on half the value of the average bike I gambled on this lock to secure my cycle tour around Spain and France. The link is heavy which could be an issue for some however gave me added assurance. It has a long 'U' which I found handy enabling me to lock my bike to more objects with ease or double up your front wheel to your back. What really comes in handy is the long and tough cable that you can attach to the D lock, this enabled me to lock my trailer to the bike on my travels. As others may have highlighted the locking mechanism is a little temperamental but nothing a little 'jiggle' won't sort out, in 4 years of regular use this has only been a minor inconvenience though.All in all if you can still grab one of these for a good price I strongly recommend you do, it may be heavy but not as heavy as that feeling you get when you find your beloved bikes been nicked.

The combination of the long cable and secure U lock work well together. You can lock both wheels and the frame up to a permanent structure for peace of mind... if you're leaving your bike in a dodgy area. The only thing that you have to worry about then are the parts that can be taken off such as your seat post.

Second time I’ve bought this lock for my bike. I really like it because it’s quite long and fit my chunkier mountain bike.The first one of these locks I got was chopped into pieces by thieves. Thankfully this lock is approved by my bike insurance company.

The good: it’s a solid D-lock, and nice and long so will be easy to use where shorter ones can be a bit difficult.The bad: the mount doesn’t give me much confidence, so I ended up buying velcro ties to lend more support mounting it on the frame.The cable that comes with it is on reflection pretty pointless, because it attaches to the D-lock. Once the thieves have cut the D-lock they can just take the cable off anyway. The cable could do with some cable tie attachment, because it doesn’t coil up tidily, and again I’m having to go and buy things to sort the problem out.Overall though, it’s a decent lock just as good but cheaper than you’d buy on the high street.

This is a great lock, can't see how some have had a problem locking and unlocking.I liked it that much i purchased another, love the fact it came with the bonus of a security cable, though if you are buying it on the strength of this be aware the cable is not Gold Standard. I would certainly trust my bike on it though.
